I was wondering the same thing myself. I stuck the fuel filler funnel there for now, but it doesn't fit right. The front tow hook is behind and to the left as shown.

Maybe the front spring spacers (for flat-bedding as referenced in manual) that we didn't get?

Almost looks like a place to stash a piece (firearm)!

I was also surprised by the amount of electronics stashed in there...one is a fuse block, but another is a controller of some sort (eLSD perhaps?). Someone with a regular SS should weigh in if that controller is in their trunk well also.

I was a little surprised the manuals came in a zip lock bag, surprised GM couldn't at least spring for a vinyl holder.

Same here, my last few GM cars have come in a bag. My past few Fords came in a nice pouch.

2017 Mustang GT PP (w/manual cover) or 2017 Camaro SS 1LE (w/o manual cover)

They can keep the cover. Invest that extra $5 somewhere else in the car not in my glovebox. LOL! JK seems a little silly to me too.

Perhaps the reflective triangles/road maintenance kit? I believe those are options.

Oh I know, I don't really give a crap. But you buy a near $46,000 msrp car, you kinda expect that. My $29,000 msrp Fusion came with a nice pouch with a metal pen lol...

The battery is behind that door looking thing on the right side of the trunk behind the tail light.

and, I was also wondering if I got gypped out of a pouch for the owners manual. Kinda sucks to find out that I didn't

Give you all those manuals that won't fit in the glovebox.
