Dealers...they just don't get it.

When will they learn not to order all of there SS's all optioned out with Auto Trans. And price them for $45k and up. And then wonder why they sit on the lot for months? Ive been looking for a good deal on a base 1SS with stick for months to buy off the lot. They just don't get it.

Dealers don't get nervous about lot inventory until they have held the car for six months or so in this market right now…

Since you're in MD/DC/VA area, you really should check out Koons in Tysons Corner. They have a bunch of 1SS w/6spd manual from $34-36K and it appears to be the dealer discount (not incentives).

Anything they have listed inaccurately as "6spd Automatic" is actually a 6spd manual if browse the actual pics. They should fix that. But they have deals there for '17s optioned the way you want.

I bought a new 16 Ram that sat on the lot just over 12 months, why? Perfect color, Hemi, 20's etc.; it did not have the $285 back-up camera.
Got 33.2% off.

Now with the 1SS Camaro SS I bought in October of this year with 26.6% off, there were just too many built. Or, in my case it also had $485 rally stripes that we all agree are a rip-off. I mean, it is a Hyper blue 6-Speed Convert with a 46.6k MSRP, not exactly over-built but perfect for me and only six months on a lot.

My personal opinion is that car industry is getting more and more competitive every year and every brand is putting a lot of money and effort to stay on top; this time in particular is a SUV market and sports cars definitely are losing ground even sedans against SUV specially compact SUV's. Another reason they (specially Chevrolet and Ford) are selling their icons named Mustang and Camaros at prices that one easily could go to a luxury brand and buy a luxury vehicle instead of a muscle car that in many cases is going to stay in the garage most of the time; don't get me wrong, we are talking about different categories but not everyone has spar money to have a third car sitting in the garage only for weekends; the car industry knows people are switching to cars that are more functional therefore they are selling SUVs with options like wide tires and rims, more horsepower, etc.

I think over many years, sports cars have been less and less in demand, with SUVs being more and more popular. That's not new, but maybe it's just getting worse.

I suspect that dealers tend to order what sells the most in today's car market. The Chevy, Ford, and Chrysler dealerships here all carry more AT cars than MT. I had to order my last MT Camaro because nobody carried what I wanted. The sales people I talked to were all very helpful but admitted that they don't carry many MT cars because the demand just isn't there. Dealerships like Rodgers Chevrolet that carry a broad base of cars are few and far between.

Completely agree - there are dealers that cater for the mass market (most dealers) and they will carry the mass market specs that they expect people to walk off the street and buy. Typically autos and loaded with options

Then there are enthusiast dealers like Becky and Criswell/Kerbeck/Macmulkin for the Corvette world that will carry a more specific range of cars tailored to people like us and will understand our needs.

When I bought my C7 Vette I used Criswell and they were great to work with yo put in a factory order for what I wanted, and understood the car perfectly and made recommendations to tailor my order to what I wanted. Much like Becky does for the Camaro market.

With my Camaro I just wanted a 2SS Auto convertible, so they were falling off the shelves at dealers :-)

Really comes down to personal preference - mass market dealer that is convenient but will look at you strangely, or a dealer like Becky that really understands you but might be further away

There's a place about an hour north of me that has roughly 70 Camaro SS models in stock and you can pretty much count on one hand how many have NPP, which to me is a must have. They've got great deals, heck they've got some 1SS models for under $35K but no NPP to be found. Luckily there is another place close by that nearly all of their SS models have the NPP, but their prices aren't quite as good.

The closest Chevy dealership to me has had a 2016 Red 'vert on the lot since early May, I stopped by to check it out and it's still there...sad.

I was looking for a new 997 Porsche 911 about 6 years ago. Went to a Porsche dealership in Miami that had nearly a hundred new and used 911s on their lot. Only 3 MTs! How ridiculous is that? Even the salesman thought I was asking for something silly, even tried to boil my preferences down to simply being cheap. I thanked him kindly for his impressive ability to save me money as I drove out of the dealership in the car I drove in.
