GM Tire TSB

Guess this will help answer some of those lingering questions some have had about driving the F1's in the winter:

I saw that yesterday, kind of funny that they post a TSB on this, but other issuss like the rear end rubbing noise that a ton of us have here get ignored. This really just a CYA type of deal, tires work fine in cold, just drive slow and a heated garage does wonders. Below 20 I can see maybe an issue, I normally don't drive mine under 30/35 degrees.

It has nothing to do with them being fine when cold. It's that they develop cracks in the tire and lose performance because of it. The tsb is just a warning to not drive the car in cold weather and that they won't warranty the tires. Which is kind of bs to me.

This CYA is necessary because consumers believe their money gives them the inherent right to abuse a system that was built with a specific purpose in mind. Anecdotal evidence does not give one the right to complain when they assume the risks. This is a performance vehicle/tire that was designed, tested, and validated to operate in specific conditions with a specific level of function. Those conditions do not include Summer rated tires being misused and run in Winter (cold) conditions. If you were fortunate enough to pony up for an expensive vehicle that includes Summer Performance tires, you owe it to yourself and your car to care for it properly!

For the life of me I can't understand why GM doesn't give you the option of choosing non summer tires for the SS model. I had to go with the 2LT because I live in Ohio. I would have preferred the SS.

I agree...they shouldn't offer these vehicles in cold climates with a/s options.

Summer tires work fine here in the south year around and we do not need all seasons. It is a performance car and why they put performance tires on it. I could not see wanting to drive my v8 Camaro through snow. If I had to I would have bought an awd or 4x4 instead. Not many people who live where it snows alot can drive a Camaro with low clearances. Mainly just inner city driving with snow. Yes I drive in snow yearly but in a 4x4 3/4 ton diesel while I am in Colorado for the Holidays. Just my thoughts.

Althought it has been cold here recently in SC (20- 40 degree morning temps) I have not noticed anything wrong with the tires on my DD SS.
