Got my first camaro last week, and got pull over

Hi guys,

new member here.

Finally got my first camaro, it's 2016 2LT RS, and I'm happy to find out that there is a community.

Dealer told me they need to order the front license plate mount and get it installed today, but still a cop pulled me over this morning, bad luck

Hey from King George,
Welcome to the family first and foremost. Bad luck on the pull over. Did you get a citation or a warning? I'm in the same boat, waiting on my Tow Hook adapter for my front plate. I've been lucky so far. I think my close proximity to a Navy base has afforded me a bit of luck since there are so many cars registered from other states. Well again, welcome to the family and enjoy that sweet Bumblebee.

Seems odd that Chevy didn't automatically ship the license plate holder with the car if it was shipped to a state that requires a front plate. Typically the plate holder is in the trunk when the car arrives at the dealer. Maybe check your trunk to see if the plate holder is there. It could possibly be in the storage area under the trunk floor cover.

Virginia.. Lucky you didn't get put in jail and you car impounded.

Some of those south eastern states have some surprisingly aggressive traffic laws.

thanks, I got a ticket and citation, in this situation I think I can go to court and fight for this ticket, but I'm not sure if it worth the time for it since it's just a minimum charge

it's a 1 year pre-owned car so that might be the reason, but I'm still surprised since I bought it from a chevy dealer and they don't have any plate holder in stock.

That is so weak getting pulled over for lack of front plate. Many of us don't run front plates and we have them. Congrats on the car and sorry for your bad luck

Be VERY VERY careful in Virginia whatever you do, dont go over 19 mph(or 80mph) Reckless Driving is automatic jail in Virginia. Anything above 90mph is a day or two in jail PER MPH over 90, 100+mph youre looking at weeks or even months.

I also got pulled over couple weeks ago the Police Officer went straight to check my front plate and thankfully I had it installed. I swear these cars are LEO magnets. Ive gotten pulled over more times in the last few months than my entire life. Usually to check tinting, lights or front plates, registration.... all my stuff is legal and in order so they just let me go but is starting to get old.

I think VA is ok, way better than MD, who puts stealthy speed cameras everywhere

Nah, he could have bought the car from an out of state dealer and had it shipped to his dealer. I had mine come in from PA; no bracket came with it. I also request the better not put it on. I've been lucky so far no one has messed with me I stick the plate up in my window though. And Richmond is pretty calm as long as you stay in the outskirts.

What happens if you are crossing a state and say, tints are illegal there but legal in yours?

Unfortunate. My car came with a License plate bracket but the dealer suggested I go with a sto n sho one instead of drilling my front bumper. Anyway I've zip tied my license plate to the front bumper till I get a better no-drill plate holder.

License plate brackets have to ordered with the car, they don't automatically come with them. Dealers in states that require front plates generally order them for their lot cars. GM isn't going to spend time and money knowing which states do and don't require front plates. It's much easier and cheaper to just put a check box on the order form.

The bracket is probably still sitting in the previous owners garage. I'm not really surprised that they don't have it stock. Since a great majority of their cars already have them, they are not going to spend money on stocking this part if they don't have to. They make the customer order and pay for it.

Now, you probably have what is called a "fix it" ticket. When you go to court, show your receipt for the bracket and installation order and they will probably dismiss it. If not, take your receipt for the fine back to your dealer and they may either reimburse you, since it was really their fault you didn't have it, or trade out for services like detail or an extra oil change or something of that nature.
