So...this happened yesterday...
My first American Car. My first Camaro. My first V-8.
I can't say enough about how impressed I am with this car. Chevy has really put together a fantastic sports car. Immense power, taught, but not uncomfortable suspension, beautifully weighted steering and sounds that make my soul shiver. I'm really loving this car so far... Growing up with a gear head Dad who had everything - foreign or domestic, I gravitated towards BMW in the eighties and it kind of stuck. Last night I traded in my 2011 135i for this new Camaro. The 135 had a full performance suspension and a stage 1 flash. It was mighty quick (4.6 to 60) and handled amazingly well...it saw the track a half dozen times and I moved across the country with it. Yeah, I'm sad to see it go, but five years and many memories later, it was time. The risk of paying for BMW repairs out of warranty just didn't appeal to me. So the search was on. I tried buying another BMW. I really did...for months. I was waiting on the M2 that materialized into a 25k markup for some dealers, instantly blowing my budget. I get that it's not unusual for many dealers to do it across brands, but it doesn't make it right. Since the M2 was out of the picture, I looked to the M240i with the new B58 motor; more power, great torque and the successor to my car. It seemed to make sense until I drove one. It didn't inspire like my 135. Electric steering isn't horrible, but what you read is true. There's a dead, disconnected feeling. It felt dumbed down from my car. Maybe you get used to it with time, but I wasn't going to take the chance on a fifty thousand dollar car. It didn't give me the angry and visceral rewards of the 135. It was comfortable and fast, and too civilized. So I pulled the trigger on a 2017 1SS. I didn't even feel the need to go 2SS...I saved a ton of money over the BMW and got an incredible performance car. Stating the obvious, the Camaro is not civilized, but it's evolved. It's so much more than a drag car and I'm heading up to the mountains today to get to know it. I've got tons of questions and look forward to learning more about mods, issues, etc. Plus, if anyone's interested, I'll try to update thoughts on the car as I get to know it. Feeling a bit patriotic at the moment...nice to go American. ========================================== Interesting article on HPS vs. EPS: http://www.caranddriver.com/features...n-test-feature |

Congrats. I was also waiting for the M2 before the dealers started adding markups. I liked it for sure but not that much.
The Camaro also has EPS but they did a very good job tuning it; in tour mode mine reminds me of a previous gen C63. I think these use the same ZF steering rack as the ATS-V and M3, just tuned differently. |

Nice review. I've got a 2007 Z4 Coupe that I love and don't want to part with. But I put it in storage once I picked up my 2016 2SS. A different driving experience to be sure, but like you say, the Camaro is evolved, and I would add sophisticated. An improvement too over my previous 2011 Camaro.

Beautiful car....Exact color, wheels and stripes I was going to order. Then found choice #2 nearby and pulled the trigger on that one instead.
I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised with your upkeep and maintenance costs versus the BMW. Good Luck with Your new ride! |

Congratulations!!! Best of luck with your new car. Adding some 1LE wheels and tires will improve handling.
