What happened to my wheels?

Good morning fellow Gen 6 owners.

I wanted to run something by y'all, I noticed this issue before I started cleaning my car. I originally thought my wheels were just simply dirty as hell. There appears to be no rough spots or the feeling of a curb rash by gently rubbing your finger along the wheel. Does anyone have any ideas?

What are you using to wash the wheels?

That's so weird, this car has never been through an automatic car was, besides a touchless one that simply uses water and soap.

I clean the wheels with a microfiber with meguiar's Wash and Wax anywhere.

That's why it's paint, a good binding between the paint and surface would hold up under car washes at this point, with the car so new. Take it back to dealer very soon, don't wait...you still may get lucky on warranty.

I read in my Mercedes owners manual that you should not use touchless car washes, The chemicals they use to clean it touchless as too harsh and will damage the finish.
Painted wheels from the factory are protected with a clear coat over the paint, could be a poor coating?

I know GM had this issue on some 07-08 painted/clear coat wheels. Looks the same to me. I would check with dealer, or several, as they warrantied the truck wheels. Some of The truck wheels also had issues around the lug nut area.

Off topic: I know drive thru is convenient in the salt/cold areas etc... But I would use a pay and spray if at all possible. They will knock off the crud till you can two bucket or rinseless wash. I do not use their soap or brush at the pay and sprays.

Neither one will get all the junk off and wiping the car down after one could/will swirl your ride. When I do use a pay and spray, I take my bucket/soap/wash pads/micro fiber, so I can wipe the car down. Just keep the meter running while hand washing at the pay and spray.

Basically the standard 20" silver wheels and the $200 extra black wheels are not very durable. Looks like they will peel from just driving. I have the black ones and only clean with light mist from hose andhand car wash soap with sponge

You got it. 100%. C7 Corvette wheels, which are now 2-3-4 years old, are starting to suffer degradation, it's simply that painted wheels don't last on a car. If you really care about your finish, take them off for 5 or $600, get them powder coated the way you want and you won't have this problem.
