Camaro Wide Body Kits

So I was wondering what the general consensus is on here about "body kits". I've noticed that nowadays side rockers and splitters seem to be more popular. I remember being a youngin' and how wide body kits were in demand. Is it a niche market? A fad that has past? An acquired taste?

How do you all feel about them? I've included a picture of what I am referring to and a reference picture for what I usually see around here and other places.

Wide Body:

More common recently:

So what do you think about it?

I kinda' think of body kits as the 11/10 girl at the bar who you'd look so damn good with but also who would empty your bank account quicker than you could say bankrupt. Oh and it'd be impractical as hell if it was a DD (imagine having to park in cluttered grocery stores where people already park like crap)

This is just my opinion. but back in 02 and 03 when fast and furious cars were at there peak (Yes I still love those movies) this reminds me a lot of that. As for putting it on a Camaro and taking away the beauty of its origination is not for me. I'm talking body kits. not wheels or subtle ground fx.

Personally I love the look. I just have to agree with Lurker... Looks great but doesn't seem practical enough :(

If you like it, go for it. I think they look very Need for Speed / Fast and Furious though. Not my taste.

Agree, they detract from the gorgeous lines of the stock car (body kits)... It would take an extremely well designed kit to add to this car and not just look 'stuck on' (which that widebody kit does IMO)
Subtle enhancements and some nice wheels will do wonders for most cars.

I'm not quite as educated about body kits but they just look heavy. The 200-300 pounds Chevy shaved off the 5th Gen is gonna' be put right back on with the kit and bigger wheels which might affect the performance and handling too

I guess I don't see the point of this over getting a 1LE that handles great out of the box.

Oh man this is probably the best thing I've ever heard! Or read or whatever. That's exactly how I feel about it. Looks nice, but damn.

I agree. it seems these wide body kits (which I still see on some tuners rolling around at night around here) are not made to last. Just the other night (on date night, no less) I was distracted from the majestic beauty of my life partner by a civic si with one of these kits, and most of it was falling off and shaking in the wind. We couldn't have been going more than 80 and I was afraid the panels or whatever they're called would fly off and hit us.

I think that, although they may sometimes look great, most of these look stuck on though. Unless it's one of those shops that literally does work to the body of the car, not just bolt it on. I saw a pretty subtle "body kit" on phastek. It just doesn't say if they come in the stock colors, or need to be painted or something. It's this one:

Yup. Bankruptcy is a hell of a drug. Seriously though, what about just wide body kitting the front? Half the cost, maybe?

Looks like crap. Looks like someone that didn't need plastic surgery that got work done anyways, causing an opposite effect of actually looking worse.
