Flowmaster American Thunder Review
I recently installed the latest axleback from Flowmaster for our NPP equipped cars. My thoughts....
It is not as loud as I expected to be. Maybe it is because I already have the NPP, but I was expecting something earth shattering. Maybe a 2nd cat delete can fix this. It is very deep sounding, especially at idle. Which is what i was looking for. It is the sound that these cars should have made from the factory. Surprisingly, there is little to no drone. Only case i have found is in 6th gear at speeds of 40 mph or less. I can see how it would be annoying, but then again, I am never in 6th at those speeds. Anything over and there is no drone so cruising is not an issue. My one concern is on deceleration. the sytem "hums" every once in a while. Maybe it is unburned gases or something but I have never experienced that before. Maybe Flowmaster can chime in? Overall, I enjoy the product. I would like to have some feedback on the "humming" phenomenon. Would I purchase again? Im not sure. But to be honest, I don't know that i would purchase any exhaust. With some kits costing almost twice as much, I don't know how much better they can truly get.

Do you have any sound clips and is it NPP compatible?
I love the sound of Flowmasters since I like a deep, rumbling tone vs a loud, raspy tone. But like most systems with a deep tone, it will drone. For deceleration, you will hear all kind of noises along with pops, gurgles, etc. It's a pretty normal characteristic feature of our exhaust system and the Flowmasters just enhances the sound. The one below sounds good but it's not for NPP systems. |

This is for the NPP equipped cars. The video you posted was of their earlier product. I dont have sound clips yet, but even then i dont know that they would do the system justice. They would never capture all the lows.

That sounds like yours? I was interested in this also but was concerned about drone. |

I'm curious: from a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the loudness stock NPP and on the same scale how would you rate the flowmaster one for reference?

Okay I too have the Flowmaster American Thunder axle back exhaust and I’m really happy with the system. I was able to ditch the footlocker that came with the car (probably freed up some weight in the process) and have a great looking and sounding exhaust. All through the power band to WOT this exhaust sounds great! No drone and the added gurgle and popping doesn’t sound bad either. Upon startup on cold start the car sounds like a beast but after the idle kicks in, it has a nice ever lower rumble. I’ve always had great success with Flowmaster in giving my cars and nice muscle car sound vs an exotic note.
Since adding the axle back I had the Flowmaster Scavenger X pipe added last week and man, it sounds even better to me. This deletes the mid resonators and retains the AFM valves which upon talking to the guy from Magnaflow who takes care of all the exhaust work on Chip Foose custom builds, he said no matter what I decided go with, keep the AFM valves. So I know it’s hard to make decisions on video clips which I don’t have. Simply because I really don’t have the time, location or extra person to shoot while some ‘fly by’ passes are being done to record. I’m completely satisfied yet again with Flowmaster and thanks to Juiced1 for their hooking me up with product and great pricing!

That's exactly what I have. I retained the NPP.
