Hood vents on V6
There is a video on how to do it on 5th gen. I was wondering if anyone here done it on their 6th gen?

I wonder if it's more difficult because of the aluminum hood?

The aluminum is not thick.

I have had the hood vents sitting in my garage for over a month now. I've started a thread looking for hood placement from an SS owner with no luck. So I kind of have it on the back burner until I can get confirmation from a SS owner
And im not sure why everyone is saying it's going to be hard because of the aluminum hood? It's a relatively soft metal and easy to work with... |

while not the same shape, I installed hex vents on my 5th gen...After having done it once, I feel pretty confident in doing something similar again, even with a different car, as the steps are all the same:
a) remove hood and once off, remove hood liner a.2) put hood on saw horses - be sure to have blanket or padding of some sort! b) tape off the hood to prevent metal shavings from scratching paint c) mark holes where you want vents d) drill a pilot hole in one corner e) jigsaw vent shape, maybe angle grinder, or die grinder to fine tune the holes f) trim any braces in the way under the vents g) test fit, fine tune if necessary h) mount em! I'm not gonna lie. It's utterly terrifying to go at your hood with a drill and a jigsaw, but after the first pilot hole you realize that you've already gone too far, so may as well take your sweet time, checking and double checking that things are aligned and looking good, but it's not a difficult process at all. Just INCREDIBLY tedious. From start to finish on mine, I spent about 4-5hrs (hood off to hood on) but it was absolutely worth the effort.

I'm looking for a stock 2ss hood and hood vents for my bright yellow 2lt. Had a terrible experience with a shop pretending to be a body shop, the paint kept coming out chipped. I asked my dealer and they said they don't do this? Anywhere else I can buy the hood painted and get it installed by someone else?

I'm less afraid of any kind of commitment and just not enthusiastic about water and crud just flowing over my engine for no reason or doing it for just aesthetic reasons.
If we had turbo's that could benefit from cooling ...maybe....or if we had an intake that took air from hood vents ...then maybe. Just for looks? no. might as well use the stick ons if that's your goal. You'll get the same reaction from anyone who cares enough to look. |
