Hyper Blue Paint Defects?
I'm aware of some of the issue with Mosaic Black, but has anyone found issues with their Hyper Blue (or other color) vehicles?
My car has about 200 miles on it. It is a 2016 that I just took home last weekend. It had about 100 miles on it when I bought it. I'm doing a full detail on the car and began polishing out the paint tonight. I haven't gotten far because I am noticing some paint issues on the hood. The best way I can describe it is that it looks like a rather poor re-paint job from a body shop. I am not saying that is what happened but that is what it looks like to me. There seem to be little dust specks in the paint or maybe it went on a little too thick. I'm not a body shop expert but I can tell it is not right and I can not get rid of it even with cut compound and a medium cut pad. I guess it is possible that there was some kind of transportation issue or some issue happened at the dealership. This would be very upsetting if it was the case. Honestly, I am not sure what is better, dealership incident or GM defect, and I don't think I really have recourse at this point. Anyway, curious if anyone has noticed anything like this. Only thing I've noticed on my friends is the bumpers don't have a close enough match to the rest of the body in my opinion.

Rail dust perhaps? I had those on an HHR i had and they became a little more noticeable when they started to rust. Clay bar did the trick.

I already clay barred the car out before I got to this point. It's in the paint. Like I said, I've already hit it with cut compound progressing from a light to medium cut pad on my porter cable polisher. For sure not dust.

Did you use Iron X? I'm assuming you don't have a paint thickness guage? The dealership should actually have one.

I have IronX but I have not used it. I do not have a paint thickness guage. Really would like to have one but they are kinda pricey, if I am not mistaken.

That sucks. The paint on my HB vert has nothing like this. Late April build. Hope your dealer gives you a satisfactory solution.

I spent a lot more time looking over the car today. I can find no signs of any post production paint work on the car. No over spray, no tape lines, nothing. The defects seem to mainly affect the hood but there are issues with the clear on other panels as well, just somewhat less extreme. I've reached out to the GM of the dealership, who seems motivated to assist with resolving the issue.

I had a 2016 summit white 2ss with horrible factory paint issues and let me tell you GM has no care when it comes to making pain right from factory as it should be, ended up working things out with my dealer to trader for a 2017 Hyper Blue Metallic 2ss and this one still has a couple issues but NOTHING like my 2016 summit white.

I finally have an update on this issue. The dealership where I bought my car agreed to swap hoods with another vehicle on their lot a few weeks back. There were some scheduling issues to get this done but finally swapped hoods today.
Amazingly enough, when I got up there, I noticed that the hood that they were planning to swap ALSO had defects. Similar to the one on my car but better. Fortunately, there was a 3rd matching car on the lot, which was on the showroom floor. That one also was not perfect if I am being nitpicky but it was easily the best of the 3. Unfortunately, it also has some scratches from people touching it in the showroom. Nothing concerning, they'll come out with a quick cut and polish. Anyway, mind boggling to me how these cars are getting painted like this not to mention getting through QC. |

They should repaint the car... Mine is at a body shop/paint shop getting both quarter panels, trunk lid and A-Pillars repainted (Base black). It's been there since the 2nd.
I have a summit white loaner 2017 1LT and it has the same thing as your hood on the quarter panels... It's dust particles getting into the paint. On mine it was white bubbles in the clear coat. I think the paint line in the factory is not ventilated properly allowing contaminants to get in to the cars as they dry. |
