The JDP Motorsports Racing Team headed into the 4th and final round of the NMCA Hotchkis Autocross with the lead in Modern Muscle as well as the overall lead for the Season Grand Champion Cup. Our strategy this season was to be fast and consistent with our goal being to win the Hotchkis Cup Grand Championship. We planned on doing all of this with a brand new undeveloped platform, the 2016 Camaro SS.
![]() The Hotchkis Cup Autocross series put on by the Racing Byrds is an excellent series that promotes consistency and speed. The classes are Classic Muscle, Modern Muscle, Sports Car and Compact. The rules are similar to other sanctioning bodies with the exception that all of your runs throughout the weekend are averaged together and the lowest average time in all classes takes the CUP at the end of each round. There are 25 points available to the fastest person at each event that go towards the season standings. There are also awards for fastest in class on Saturday and Sunday as well as Fastest Overall. ![]() The level of competition at these events is very high and everyone wants the top prize! We came into round 4 with a 4-point lead over Greg Nelson in his 2014 Camaro Z/28 and we knew it was going to be a tight battle as it always is with Greg. The goal for the JDP Team was to be conservative and smart; if you go off course it is a 99 second run and your season is over. Greg came out swinging running the fastest time of the day on Saturday and he was leading for the Round 4 event cup going into Sunday. We played it safe and we ended up 3rd overall behind Steve Abbott for the overall at the end of the day Saturday. ![]() Greg Nelson in his 2014 Camaro Z/28 putting on a clinic. We arrived at the track on Sunday and we knew we just needed to do what we did on Saturday to win the season Modern Muscle Championship along with the Grand Championship. Steve Abbott didn’t come back on Sunday so that moved us into 2nd Place overall for the weekend giving up 1-point to Greg which put our lead to 3-points. Greg came out swinging and did everything he needed to do to have a chance at winning it all running the fastest time of the day and winning modern muscle. Greg had an amazing weekend and took the Round 4 Hotchkis Cup sweeping the weekend! ![]() Trish Byrd giving Jordan pointers and good luck! JDP driver, Jordan Priestley, was able to maintain 2nd place in Modern Muscle and overall in our 2016 Camaro SS. We fought hard all season and we came out on top with the 2016 NMCA Hotchkis Cup Modern Muscle Championship and the overall Grand Championship! This was a huge accomplishment for the JDP Racing Team and a testament to our passion for the sport. We finished with 93 of a possible 100 points to Greg’s 90 points on the season. ![]() Team JDP had a very successful weekend with Don “Speedy” Gonzales in his freshly built JDP 2010 Camaro SS finishing 3rd in Modern Muscle on Sunday. Don is now running a JDP Stage 3 Track Spec Package featuring Detroit Speed components and Forgeline GA1R wheels wrapped in 315/30R18 BFG Rival S tires on all four corners! ![]() John Grow was able to take 4th Place in his 2014 JDP ZL-1000 Track Spec ZL1 that is also equipped with Detroit Speed components and Forgeline GA1R’s wrapped in 305/30R19 Bridgestone RE71R tires. ![]() We had a great time running the NMCA Hotchkis Autocross Series in 2016. Thank you to Rob and Trish from Racing Byrd’s for putting on such a great event that allows us to come out and have a lot of fun. Thank you to NMCA and the sponsors of the series including Hotchkis, Centerforce, Wilwood, Energy Suspension, Nitto Tires and Racing Byrds! ![]() Trish and Rob Byrd keeping Jordan upright Congratulation to all of the season class points champions, Marc Lewis in Compact, Ryan Thacker in Sports Car and Greg Thurmond and Chad Ryker in Classic Muscle. We have a lot of fun running this series because of everyone that participates. We have made lifelong friends and we’re looking forward to next season!!! ![]() We couldn’t do what we do without all of our great partners including Airaid, American Racing Headers, Anderson Composites, BF Goodrich, Centerforce, CMP, Detroit Speed, Driven Racing Oil, Driveshaft Shop, Forgeline, Holley Performance, HP Tuners, JDP Motorsports, JRi Shocks, MSD, Riverton Chevrolet and Ultimate Performance!
