Snow under trunk lid?

Hi guys,

I am shopping around and noticed a really great dead on a 2016. The dealer has 25 pictures online and going through them all, I noticed one that has the trunk open and what looks to be snow(sleet, hail?) under then trunk lid. It doesn't look to be in the trunk itself, but the angle isn't the best. Is this area prone to water? Did the dealer do something wrong? This a symptom of something else?

Thanks in advance,
VABarn

Perhaps the picture was taken after a wash? I know water does drain into that area from the roof and back window. The dealer probably prepped the car for promo shots but never popped the trunk to wipe down those areas.
Just a guess.

Agreed. Left side on the trunk itself, it looks like soap is running down.

Either soap or snow, that area gets plenty wet during rain or a wash.
Nothing to worry about IMO

Looking at all the green grass in the background, I'm sure it is not snow but is soap as others have mentioned.

Look at the underside of the trunk lid - lots of it on there running down.

But - the thing that concerns me is the amount of residue left in there that, unless you open the trunk and deal with it will remain in there to either puddle or slowly ooze out onto your rear bumper area.

Not a good design IMO to have this much gap and liquid intrusion and no way to deal with it quickly. Maybe the car needs bigger drains or a better seal between the trunk lid and the bodywork

It's because it went through an automatic wash or was foam lanced. Tons of suds and pressure will cause this. If you normally wash your car the only area that gets this much suds coming through is the hood liner, which I need to figure out how to deal with that.

The trunk area isn't this bad for letting water in, unless it's forced in with a lot of pressure. When I go to a touchless wash once in a blue moon my door jambs will have soapy water in them as well. When I wash my car, my door jambs and trunk jamb just have water.

Thanks all! I didn't notice the grass. Soap certainly looks to be the more likely answer.
