How I might break one in.

Well I've been thinking more and more about pulling the trigger on a 1SS, I'm about 90% sure it'll happen.

Since the car would be something that will not be a particularly small purchase and I plan on it being a heirloom type of car for one of my kids someday, I want to have some cool history associated with the car. The back story on my Gen4,MCSS is pretty good, the Gen6,1SS should have a good one too (or maybe I'm crazy and only gearheads will care about any of this type of stuff).

If I was going to get one I think a cool break-in and part of the car's history would be to order it from Becky. Great dealer with tons of knowledge about the car and many satisfied customers. On top of that, time the pick up to be a day or so before the Dream Cruise. Just fly up b/c the airport is pretty close, take care of the acceptance checklist inspection and paperwork, then head the 20 miles to Woodward for supposedly the best cruise in America (which I haven't been to yet) and get the break-in underway.

By the time it's over and I get the car back home I'll be more than halfway done with the break-in miles and have a lot of seat time on a bunch of different types of roads and a cool story.

Am I nuts and should try to find a cheap local car, or is this something that would be worth the time and effort?

Sounds fun. You only live once.

I personally think it's a great idea. I took mine on a 1200 mile journey to get the break-in miles on it before I put it away. Along my trek the speed limit turns to 80mph. Just as my odometer hit 1500 miles along comes the 80mph sign. I was off to the races. The car's in layup for the winter now. Can't wait for summer!

I would have loved to do something like this. Alas with a trade-in and limited financials I had to go the local route. Someday though!

Well, this is coming from the person who you talked about with his future and his plans as a young adult, I think you should. You only live once and it's obviously something you want. The car is amazing. No doubt about that. But nobody can really tell you otherwise what to do with it. But in my opinion, if you were to buy it, you would not regret it. Not one bit. Breaking in that car will be one of the best highlights of your life. Especially them 80 mph roads. I wish I was you for and moment. Care to come pick me up? Lol

Having returned from a 4,100+ road trip, I cannot agree more! I've driven on Rte 66 on my birthday, in a Jaguar (sorry no Corvette), cruised up PCA and down to the Keys on other occasions. I am just a huge fan of the Great American Road Trip.

Do it and here's to No Regrets Living.

Cool, that makes me feel a little less like a crazy car guy.

I love the idea of this trip but ordering a car exactly how I want it vs. buying an end of the year close out is more money, and the flight, hotels, food, and gas should be around $1k. The money for the trip is worth it. 10 or 15% off is a big deal on the purchase price though.

If my kids were old enough to appreciate the trip I'd take them too but at this point they don't know the difference between a Bugatti and a Bel Air. If they were it would be a much easier decision.

You should break it in by doing it in the dealership lot before you even drive it home teehee

Haha, just like in the Dodge commercials with doughnuts and smoking tires. I don't know that the good folks at Rodgers would appreciate that very much, it would be a kickass first pic for the color threads though!

If you haven't been to the Dream Cruise, it would be an awesome thing to do.
BTW, Woodward is completely nuts the entire week leading up to the Dream Cruise itself.

I've been to the Dream Cruise for the last six years in a row. Also live just down the street from Rodgers Chevrolet where our dear Becky 'works'.
