Powerstop Z23 - Are these the right ones?

Like many of us, I'm taking steps to reduce the amount of brake dust from the stock Brembo pads on the SS models.

I'm running my stock 20" wheels for another month or so, then when the Michigan winter kicks in, I'll put my 18" wheels with snow tires back on. I understand the Gen5's had to change their brake pads to ones without the circular weights on the top in order to go down to an 18" wheel... we didn't have that problem.

I've done a significant amount of reading on this forum, and decided to save a few pennies and go with the Powerstop Z23 option for low dust for the Winter.

Anyway, I ordered the Powerstop Z23's from that online place that rhymes with blockauto.com. The pads I got look more like the 2015 pads with the round weights on them. Attached are images of the stock front pads vs the new pads and the metal clip for each.

Is this the right pad for our car? Or did they send me the Gen5 pads?

I've heard there are several people who have used these already... are these what you ended up with? How do you get that metal clip in there?

I don't know about the Z23 pads, but I put the Z26 ones on this week and the weights are NOT round like the top picture. They are like your bottom picture. So, I would say you ended up with the wrong model.

Also, I reused the factory spring on the fronts, not the ones that came with the Z26. If you use the springs they sent you they work the same as the factory ones.

What is the difference between the Z23 series & the Z26 series? The PowerStop website doesn't really show specific differences & a search didn't come up with much. Looks like the Z26 series is rated to handle more heat?

I too am interested in changing pads. I switched to a Hawk Carbonic pad in my last car with Brembo's but am also looking at alternatives. I am Daily Driving this car, so not interested in something that eats rotors in short order, or a race pad that needs heat to stop & has a short life.

DetCam, what are the part numbers you received? I'm still looking, but want to make sure what I do order is correct for our gen6 platform.

I'm seeing the parts listed on the PowerStop site as:
Front - 1474
Rear - 1718

I put the Z26 kit on my car and they still overheat on the street so I'm looking for something more!

Hey BrianL: I was shipped:

PWR Z23-1718
PWR Z23-1474

I got a call today from the company that shipped them, and they are still investigating with Power Stop. So I'm still not sure what the right parts are, but the car is already put back together with my "dusty pads" and don't have time to work on it again for a while.

Luckily my pads weren't completely worn yet, just needed to turn the rotors to smooth out some brake shudder. Life is smooth again.

I bought the Z26 pads and love them. Much less dust and great braking.

Z26 1718 ($60)
Z26 1474A ($67)

Bought mine on Amazon

This is the problem I was having. Amazon states that the 1474As do not fit my Camaro and that I need the 1474's.

Powerstop, however, says its the 1474A's (I called and confirmed with them).

I already have the 1474's on hand from Amazon and was planning to install this week. Glad I didnt have the wheels off before finding this thread.

Ive ordered the 1474A's from Amazon so that I have both on hand and will return the incorrect set.

Ill update after the install and let everyone know which is correct.

The "A" suffix is probably an internal thing....I'm sure they both fit just fine

The 'A' is a different model - one has the round weights and the other does not (picture above):

1474 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

1474A - https://www.amazon.com/Power-Stop-Z2...keywords=1474A
