New ZL1 review on the horizon?

With all the ZL1s running around in the wild, motor trend has to have somehow gotten their hands on one. How soon before we see those two passionate and brilliantly hilarious guys do a review? Those guys are can't miss TV. I must say, their Head 2 Head review of the new Grand Sport vs the Porsche almost has me second guessing getting the ZL1. They make a compelling case for less being more, yet I can't wait to see what they think of the new ZL1 and I pray they put it head to head with the Hellcat.

ZL1 is not even in production. Only test models. No way is GM giving anyone a test car.

Magazines always get test cars early. The 1le has been tested already and just recently started production.

Let's hope so, it would most likely be an M6, since A10 is having an issue. We could get a better grasp how far behind it is in the 1/4 0-60 etc.

Actually the 1LE is not in production yet either, and we have already seen it in MTs's best drivers car and C&D lightning lap.

Both 1LE and ZL1 start production next week, so it's not insane to say that some magazines could have ZL1s already.

Yeah I would like to read a review about it for sure. Although i'm waiting until I drive it for myself. I've driven the Z06 a good bit, but knowing it will be quite a bit different in the Camaro ZL1... My personal review will determine if I mod mine or just wait and snag a ZL1 then mod it up... Either way I am with you OP I would love some more information on this car... seems...like...such...a...long...wait. :/

It is possible that some press may have it based on the 1LE access, but it seems like chevy is keeping a slow drip of info on the ZL1 even though the first TPW is coming up soon. My speculation would be that they want to keep the 1LE and ZL1 from clashing in the media so that the ZL1 doesn't overshadow too much. The 1LE fell short of their expectations and isn't getting the press cycle that a 1LE beating the 350R on the track would have afforded them.

I remember from the 50th anniversary speech that Al gave that he said they were not gonna dump all the info at once on the ZL1.

The MotorTrend Driver car of the Year is an invite situation. The magazine invites manufacturers to offer up a car for the article. Last year they got the z06, which didn't fair really well due to a supercharger issue. Although, MT did give it an honorable mention in that if it had not been for that, it probably would've won. So, this year Chevy offered the 1LE. so they most likely sent them a press car, or test fleet car if you will. Driver's Car of the Year is a big deal. Why they didn't send the ZL1, only the marketing/engineering dept. at GM know that answer.

Motortrend is an Import oriented rag. It is rare that they place an American car above their beloved offshore overpriced anemic vehicles. I had a subscription to Popular Hotrodding and when they stopped printing tthat magazine I was given Motortrend as a boobie prize. I've never been more disappointed with "Office" material in my life.

The 2015 Z/28 won MT's Best Drivers Car.

I'm sure the car handles well for it's weight but for it's weight it is grossly underpowered. BTW, I much prefer the 2015 style but when I think about how heavy the car is it reminds me how slow the car is on a dragstrip.

As a 2015 Z/28 owner, I will admit the car is heavy and that it could use a bit more power BUT that was not my point. I was simply stating the MT did recognize the Z/28 as a world class drivers car, much to the chagrin of many a Porsche owner. The car is an amazing performance "miracle" based on the size and weight of the car and the LS7 is absolutely one of the best motors ever built regardless of manufacturer.

Knowing that the Z/28 handling was the baseline for the new ZL1 and I won't have to shift 0-60 with the M6, I am extremely excited to get my hands on my new ZL1 because I can just imagine what my Z/28 would feel like with an additional 150hp and gearing that allows me to launch to 60 without having to shift.
