Brembo Squeal
So my dealership insists that squeal is not uncommon for Brembo brakes to squeal/squeak, but its pretty damn annoying. Its my front right brake and it squeals whenever I press on it lightly (which is every day I'm doing my civilized daily driving).
I haven't had any braking performance problems, my car still stops as you would expect it to, but its becoming a big annoyance hearing that damn squeal everyday and the dealership just brushing it off as "normal". The squeal is even present when just driving at slow to moderate speeds without pressing down on the brake, but gets squeakier when the pedal is depressed. Anyone know of a solution beside bedding/setting the brakes? That didn't work to eliminate the squeal for more than 2 hours. My dealership isn't wanting to do shit about it, and don't want to make a big deal of it, but if they don't offer a solution, I might have to hit up corporate and another dealer to work something out.

will that affect the praking power tho? I don't want to do anything that will take away from the performance and/or make the brakes greasy and less effective.

One thing you can check is the caliper alignment. With fixed brake setups, often times the caliper is not mounted perfectly centered over the rotor. This causes one pad to hit the rotor before the other. The other side effect of this is the brake pads' "spring back" when you let off the brake might might not move the closer pad enough (at low speed) to completely clear the rotor.

Well i can tell you from experience that shimming fixed brakes correctly is a long tedious process. To be honest, most dealer mechanics don't care enough or understand why it needs to be done correctly. I'm sorry you're having issues.

reposting my response from another thread.
"Just an update, brought my 2ss to the dealer to have them check this out and even took them out for a test drive to show the issue. They heard loud and clear. Unfortunately they said that this is just how it is, and the only way they could fix it is with a custom brake "job". Basically messing with the brakes and doing a few things for about $400. I'll pass on that for now. Told GM this, and they basically were like "we don't know about this problem, we're not mechanics, take it to the dealer, etc etc.". The brakes aren't a deal breaker, but definitely a little disappointing that I'll have this squeak ongoingly. What I don't get is why some people have this issue and others don't. Seems like if this is the way it is the SS's, everyone should have this issue. But apparently that isn't the case. Thinking about taking to my old mechanic who used to work on my old car, just to have him take a look and give me the real deal on this. Would be interested to hear if anyone has made any progress." |

I had the same issue on my gen 5 1LE and now my gen6 SS. It is pretty typical with these factory brake pads. Some change the pads out for ones that produce less brake dust and don't squeal.

Brembos definitely tend to squeal. I went through that with my SRT8, didn't matter what pads I used. Didn't matter what I did to prevent it, but my god that heavy car would stop on a dime with EBCs, even from triple digits.
The 2016 2SS doesn't seem to squeal as much, but I hear it from time to time.

How about you try burnishing your brakes PROPERLY before doing anything else to "fix" this issue? The brembo brakes need to be near glowing orange hot from burnishing then put away to cool off overnight. I can assure you I don't have squealing even with aggressive track pads like carbotec xp10's etc. if you want to drive up to the Bay Area I will be happy to show you the proper procedure...

mine squeals. they shaved rotors and calipers.....didn't work. They replaced rotors and calipers.......didn't work. they then called the GM service center that said this was "normal". I will not accept that. have an open case with GM as we speak and I will accept nothing less than solving my problem. Bought car brand new less than 4 months ago.
