Serious design flaw question

I've been seriously interested in a ZL1. I recently drove a nice 2 SS with magnetic shocks and big brakes. I was impressed

What does not impress me is that there is really nothing for the passenger to hold on to when you start really exercising the car. There is no overhead grab strap or handle (ATS has them) or anything on the dash or console. The little finger pocket on the door is laughable.... No way will this let you get a grip to help the passenger hold on. I've instructed HPDEs for 28 years and have spent close to 20K miles on track in the right seat....holding on to something.

The reality is that this poor design will likely keep me from buying this car. My wife, Jewel of my life, is not a car girl and grabs onto the overhead strap in daily driving curves that aren't even .4 G. She's a chicken when it comes to speed and Gs.

Surely all of this Ring time would have made somebody at GM think of a hand hold of some type. Come on GM. Make it so I can buy this car.

Flaw? Maybe an oversight at best if others would use that item.
If I had a strap hanging down in my car I would think what idiot designer put that in my car.

Funny my wife said the same, only she refers to it as the "holy $hit handle!!"

Seem to recall them on a few muscle cars back in the day...

Handle is really a better word. They snap up out of the way. Look at most any European or Asian car.

Just about every car I've ever had had one. Why the Camaro does not is a total fail.

The passenger needs something to hold on to! I have been trying to find someone that can install one.

At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious, just chill when your wife is in the car. Even if the car came with handles and straps all over the place, you said yourself she doesn't like anything beyond .4 G ... so cruise with her, and enjoy some G's when she's not in the car.

Problem solved.

For real? Just go to a decent upholstery shop and they can add one where ever.

I never noticed the lack of the holy shit handle until I read this. I have been a passenger in my car when my husband drives, and he loves kicking the ass out around corners, but I can't recall what I might have held on to, if anything, and I never felt tossed around. He's never mentioned it either, and I know I drive like a complete maniac(asshole) sometimes(most times).

My Wife mentioned it during the test drive that ther was no handle, she quickly realized holding the door handle worked just fine.

As does my wife and she is not a chicken. Just doesn't like getting tossed. I'm sure your 'beemer' has a handle so your wife doesn't have to grab at the door. Therefore, you have no right to comment.

Tried that. They want to weld above the passenger door or stick some friggin ugly thing in the dash. Not welding the interior in my car or sticking a thing in the dash. Wait till you get a Camaro and you'll see what a pain in the a$$ it is.

Exactly. Or Cadillac and other 'American' cars. Just makes sense to have one specially in a performance car where the passenger might need something to grab on to on a bend in the road or on/off ramp.

The way I see it. The part where the "knee pad" and center console are is sorta like a handle if you grab it. And if the passenget is getting tossed to the right, the the side bolsters and soft padding on the door seem enough.
