GPS Map Updates - How?

How are GPS maps updated? Any info on costs? How often will they be available?

Believe it's a software download you load on a thumb drive and insert in to the USB. Don't know for sure as I've not done it on my car, but this what I've been told.

They are done via a USB drive for the MyLink, IntelliLink, and Cue systems. They do cost anywhere from 130-175 depending on specials and what vehicle.

You purchase them from here...
http://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/home/en_US/GMNA/USD

They come out once a year. The map data is finalized in November with a new release around the beginning of the year. So the 2016 Map Data Update was finalized 11/2015.

I have done this in my 2014 GMC Truck before. It takes approx an hour to update the map, the vehicle must be on.

And you must provide your VIN when you order. The image is generated to include your VIN for licensing and anti-piracy measure.

Some people say they do not check GM original build specs, because they have replaced their non-NAV radios with reflashed NAV radios and applied map updates from Navigation.com. I'd take that with a grain of salt though, because I didn't see any of them post proof of actually doing this.
