Maggie Tune or Custom Tune?

Magnuson provides a powertrain warranty with the heartbeat if you use their provided tune. Your installer can tweak the supplied tune and submit the changes to Magnuson for approval though.

Apparently if you add headers or use a custom tune it voids their warranty. My installer is very reputable and has left the decision up to me. Do you guys feel it is worth going with a custom tune? If I go custom tune and void the warranty, I might as well add headers!! I'm not exactly sure what to do. Either way, my installer will work with me on whatever route I want to take. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks!

If it were me personally and I was dealing with a reputable shop I'd let them do the tune and even install headers if you want. In my experience a reputable shop will honor their work and work with a reputable manufacturer to make things right with a customer if something goes wrong.

If something goes wrong because of the tune or install I would expect the shop to take responsibility and make things right. If something goes wrong because of a manufacturer defect I would expect the shop would work with the manufacturer to prove it was a manufacturer defect and expect them to resolve it between them, whether using a caned tune or not.

I'm leaning towards the custom tune and headers. They told me they install heartbeats all the time with custom tunes and haven't lost an engine yet.

exactly, the well known shops remain in business for a reason, they do it right and use quality parts/ manufacturers and stand behind their work. If these things were blowing up or the shops were doing shotty work these forums would be exploding with flaming posts and reviews.

Go ahead and install the Maggie tune first. Nothing to loose since you already paid for it. Then have your tuner take a peek at what's going on with the Maggie tune and see if there is any real gains available.

I did this with my Edelbrock E-Force install and the local guy said the tune actually looked pretty good out of the box. He suggested that I leave it as is, unless I add on headers, CAI, etc. Probably true for the Maggie also.

The more I think about it the more I like the SC with its own tune. You can spend nearly as much going NA with all the boltons and not quite get there. The beauty of an SC is that it still works very well without a single additional mod. Why risk it for a few additional HP you won't even notice?

Now your getting it. Simple and reliable, with seamless power. No need for add-ons at roughly $100 per rwhp. An SC is around $50 per rwhp

Davenport is a Fine Company and does great work so you can have the confidence to trust them fully with your car.
