2016 Camaro wins SCCA Championship Tour in Packwood

I don't think this is the first SCCA Solo national even win for the 2016 Camaro, is it?

Last weekend I took the win in F-Street in a field of 13 primarily consisting of Ford Mustangs and BMW M3s.

Here is my fastest run on Saturday, this gave me a narrow class lead of just over 0.1sec and was #2 on index for that course-

Here is my fastest run on Sunday, on this course the 2016 Camaro was the only F-Street car in the 54-sec range. It opened up my lead on the class to 0.8sec, and also put me in the top spot for overall index at the event-

The car setup-

19" Forgestar wheels
275/35-19 Bridgestone RE-71R

Congratulations! That is some great driving. I just started doing autocross this past year and am having a blast. I plan on staying in f street.

A couple questions about your setup- I think I saw that you are running 265 width RE-71R on the fronts? Any fitment issues on the front 8.5 inch width wheels? And any issues with abs calibration and smaller diameter tires? I have MRC in my 2SS, do you think this would be affected at all by the change in tire size (not sure if you have mrc or not). sorry for all the questions, I don't want to drop $2-3k on a wheel/tire setup and have worse performance than stock.

My first set of RE71Rs were 265/275, now I am running 275/35-19 on all four corners. No issues with fitment. Everyone I know who seriously autocrosses a Gen6 has had 'ice mode' issues, but it only seems to happen under very specific circumstances.

275s fit on 8.5 inch wide wheels? I know it generally isn't recommended, but I will go for it if it is working for you.. Hopefully a tire shop around here wont give me problems.

After looking up "ice mode", I'm thinking this is exactly what I experienced the last time I went out. Was in my 6/7 run, was making great time, and had a completely different braking sensation than I expected. Car seemed to brake at half the rate it normally would going in one corner, I was unable to modulate it with the pedal, and I ended up plowing into cones at the far end of the turn. The course had a ton of gravel in some spots from bad pavement, and this could have contributed, but it felt so unnerving. This is on stock wheels/tires. It only happened that one time. I would have had my best time of the day on that run if it hadn't happened (thats what I keep telling myself lol).

Nice work OP!

I learned a lot watching your videos and thanks for having the telemetry in there. I autocross over here in Spokane but am nowhere near your level.

If you're talking about "ice mode", i was in track/competition mode (nannies turned off) i think... I can't say with 100% certainty because the car requies you to turn it to track mode and turn off the tc/stabilitrak every time you start up, and I know i have forgotten to do that at least once or twice.

I was talking to someone today and looked at the standings for the SCCA and 3 of the top 5 spots are held by Camaros. 1 of which (5th) is a 16.

I don't know what the name is of the guy who placed here but it's interesting seeing that the Mustangs aren't as dominant as people thought they were.

They are struggling against last gen.

The new gen hasn't had time to get acclimated and it looks like the ones that are driving 16s are fairly new to the game.

It is unfortunate that they aren't selling as well as many had hoped but at least the performance is there.

How do you like the Strano bar? Are you on MRC or Non-MRC?

The Strano bar is great, I'm running it on the softest setting which is around 40% stiffer than the stock bar. My car is non-MRC.

I also had a very successful showing at the Packwood ProSolo, taking the class win and also winning the Super Challenge! I've been doing National ProSolo events for 10 years, and this is the first time I've won the Super Challenge.

Here is the full event writeup-

http://www.solomatters.com/2016_tire...lo-event_recap

Here are some cool videos. This was the semi-final round against a very fast driver in a S2000. His clutch exploded as he finished his last run, I won the round by 0.018sec. Holy smokes!

Here was the final round against a very well driven Z06-

The car is working well, I'm looking forward to driving at the Solo National Championships later this year.
