Is Petro-Canada Ultra 94 good for the 2SS?
Ultra 94 from PetroCanada is what I have near me, is this good for the 2016 2SS?
I'm not sure if I'm getting good performance out of it. The car doens't feel as powerful as my previous 2010 C63 AMG running on the same fuel. |

I had this same question recently.
It is fine to use. You have 2 choices. Sunoco 91 or Ultra 94 Sunoco 91 has no ethanol, so it is a true 91 octane Ultra 94 has ethanol which bumps up the rating a few points. Our cars are mapped to use fuel that has ethanol so there are no concerns using it. I started with Sunoco 91, but went to back Ultra 94 and have not had any issues or felt the car performs less.

However, over the years I've consistently noticed that using the ethanol-spiked Ultra 94 (ethanol is used to help reduce emissions) causes an approximate 10% drop in fuel economy when compared to the top octane fuels from Shell or Esso that have no ethanol. This really comes into focus for me when traveling in the U.S. on the interstate using 91 or 92 octane fuel with no ethanol as I get noticeably better fuel economy. Ethanol has less energy per unit of volume that gasoline, so it only stands to reason that any ethanol that is added to gasoline will negatively impact fuel economy. Best regards, Elie

Thanks for the info.
Is it ok for me to switch between Ultra 94 and another type of "cheaper" fuel when I'm interested in saving some $$$? Can they be mixed together or do I have to wait until one is done? Which "cheaper" fuel could be used for those occasions? |

I used 94 in my last few cars always worked fine! I'm sure it will be the same for the Camaro. It is what I currently run 94 also in my SS

I'm using 91 in my Stingray (same engine as SS) with no issues, gas is expensive enough don't waste more money than you have to, on 94, if the car isn't calling for it.
Don't forget the obvious, we're driving sports cars, if fuel economy is a major concern for you, you should have bought a sub-compact. |

agree on the 94 vs. 91 though - that always seemed like a Sunoco marketing scheme more then an actual performance boost...

Hey guys.....
Just picked up a brand new 2016 6th Gen 2SS a couple of weeks ago... I've been using 94 ultra from petro Canada since the first day!!! ....... I thought Sunoco merged with petro long ago...... I haven't seen them around...so two questions 1) where are you getting the Sunoco ultra? Are you guys just referring to petro canada's ultra 94 as Sunoco ultra? 2) what about shell 91 octane? In the states they have 93 octane gas at shell stations... whereas here in Canada we only get 91......... so would 91 octane from shell be safe to use on our cars?? Please let me know.. Thanks |

91 shell here in Canada has no ethanol petro Canada 94 is boosted Octane by Using ethanol. Both are good for your car, however I switched my self to 91 shell v power because I notice it performs a little better then the 94 petro, you will also get better fuel economy using the shell 91 and it runs like a champ. Note you will always get better fuel economy you pure octane rather then using octane with ethanol.
