My insurance went down?

Went from a 2015 Mustang GT to a 2016 Camaro SS. Equal equipment.

My insurance went down about 200 bucks.

Amen indeed!

How was the performance difference between the GT and the SS?

I think the logic goes:

On average, Camaro was pricier than Mustang for 5th gen and 6th gen. I saw GT's for under 30k regularly and Camaros were almost always at least 32k for an SS.
More young people bought Mustang. It was a more unwieldy car to drive with that live axle.
More young people crashed Mustang.
Rates went up.

Even though Camaro outsold Mustang for most of 5th gen. That's my guess. My Camaro cost about as much as my 4 door ATS 2.0T, which is weird to me. Michigan is so terrible for insurance though... and being under 25 makes it even worse.

Every insurance company has it's own formulas on how they come up with rates. In some, a Camaro might be more, in others it'll be the Mustang.

My '11 Sonata cost me more to insure than my '03 Cobra. Made no sense to me, but whatever.

They have been watching all the videos of Mustangs leaving car shows.

Yes, and they banned the Mustang from all Cars and Coffee events.

In general, age of car lowers insurance by quite a bit. You can insure C5's for like nothing these days. Any 2016 car (even the slowest 4 doors) will probably be on par or more with any C5. At least in my experience.

That is because of replacement cost. And it only makes sense.

Interesting thing, I just got a quote from All State. My 1999 Buick Lesabre was only a couple dollars a month different than my 16 Camaro. The bodily injury on my Buick was around $115 every six months where it was only around $20 every six on my Camaro. The Comprehensive on my Buick was $17 every six months where it was around $115 on my Camaro. So evidently they think there is a much greater chance of me being injured in my Buick than in my Camaro.

My insurance premium was reduced also. Previous car was a 2013 Subaru WRX.

Which is fair, all newer cars are significantly safer than older cars by IIHS test standards. The SOF (small overlap) test is particularly vicious on older cars.
