Wanting to know if a CAI is really worth it.
So I have a '16 1SS 6M. So far I've had 3" duals with X-pipe and flowmaster 10's put on the car. The shop wouldn't cut the secondary cats off, I was rather "miffed" about this and I'm still looking around for someone who has the ability to do it correctly without air leaks which would cause CELs.
I have yet to see ANYONE do any independent testing on before and after CAI installs. I really wanted to wait for GM to release their CAI with the tune they promised but that sounds like it won't happen now. So now I'm looking at Cold Air Inductions, Mishimoto, and Roto Fab. Of course they all have their own claims but I tend to take product developers claims with a grain of salt with how easy a dyno is to manipulate. Does anyone know of any group that has performed unbiased testing? I would also like to hear from those who have installed these systems. Do you think it was worth it? Have you had any issues or CELs? Although minuscule, can you tell any difference? Lastly I'd like to ask about the ported throttle bodies. I've read claims of 8rwhp without a tune. Any truth behind this? Also, if the CAI were to be used with a ported throttle body would it throw the AFR off to a point of causing problems. I just want to get as much power out of this car without having to tune it, that is unless GM comes out with a tune they will support. Please, any opinions and real world experiences are welcome.
