GM 3.6L 464 hp Twin Turbo option?
I wish they put this engine as a future option for the Camaro.
The heart of ATS-V is the 3.6L 464 hp Twin Turbo producing 445 lb.-ft. of class-leading torque. High-strength, light-weight titanium connecting rods, low-inertia titanium-aluminide turbine wheels with optimized compressors and a patented low-volume, charge-air cooler create near immediate torque response and dramatically reduce get-up-and-gone-times. GM engineer review of the engine. Last edited by Ace01; 06-23-2016 at 08:58 PM. |

So you'd like an engine package that weighs more, gets less fuel economy but has the same power as a LT1?
I believe the option you're looking for is "SS" |

Every review of the ATS-V I've read or watched has said they wished it had come with the LT1. The small block is the way to go.

I agree. I wish the ATS-V came with the LT1 as well. I'm surprised GM designed 2 engines with such similar power and fuel economy -- would have preferred they put those resources on optimizing the LT1 further.

I drive the ATS-V coupe 6M while waiting for paper work on my 1SS 6M to be completed. It is a nice car but the turbo lag is there, it's just no where near as responsive as the LT1. It may have similar output numbers but the instant seat of your pants feel wasn't there. My wife drove it as well and completely agreed with me that the V8 is just instant grunt.

Interesting. How can the ATS with this engine getting 3.6 0-60 times? Both cars are close to the same weight.

Because the Camaro isnt really sold overseas where displacement taxes are brutal. The 3.6L is still taxed a decent amount but nothing like the 6.2L would be.

Funny, all these guys saying the twin turbo v6 is a waste of time. My cousins ats-v easily runs 11.8s at the track with a garage made tune. No other mods. Plus that car doesn't have the low end traction issues on the street. It runs neck and neck to a C6z.

Once you start modifying/hot-rodding stuff..at that point all bets are off. Now a TTV6 Camaro would be a good option for displacement based taxation like in Europe, but here in good ole 'Murica..we have the LT1 to do our motivation. |

I've seen a lot of stock SS run 11.9. I don't understand your point.

My cousins 4 door ATS-V weights more than my Camaro and has been faster stock for stock and tune for tune. So even though every review You have read, says the LT1 is better, my Real world comparison around the street and on the track make me think the ttv6 would be a good option to have. |

The displacement tax argument is BS, at least for Camaros. I think that throughout the continent the only Camaro you could get was the SS. GM didn't even bother trying to sell the V6.
Now, why did GM use a V6 in the ATS-V instead of a V8? Probably because there are lots of people that look down at the small block because it isn't high tech enough. To them, its a truck engine using obsolete push rods and can't even crack 75 hp/L. It doesn't matter how misguided or misinformed these people are ... they exist in substantial numbers. And they probably represent a much higher proportion of buyers in the luxury segment than in the pony car segment.
