Anyone get the wheel/tire insurance?
I was not going to get it, but as expensive as 20" tires are now, not to mention curb rash, I thought it might be a good idea. It was $600 for 3 years. I'd like to think I would be extra careful, but was it worth it?

This is about the only extra package dealer sells that I think is worth it, if you're in an area that has construction or just a lot of crap on the roads. It usually pays off.

For tires and rims? Yes, well worth it. Your tires and rims are just about the one thing guaranteed to get damaged even if you're pretty careful. Unless you live in an area where there's somehow never been any construction in months, this stuff usually pays for itself in a pretty short while. I picked up 2 nails within 2 weeks in totally unrelated areas after having never gotten one in my life. I also hit a piece of metal on the highway that was lying flat and hard to see which required putting in filler, re-powder coating, and re-balancing because it was so deep.
Just one tire and rim alone are probably worth more than what you're paying if both had to be replaced. |

STOP.......... I checked this out........ I can get this at dealer cost ( about $400)... BUT... It is my impression that curb damage to tire or wheels is NOT COVERED... Big holes in road that damage tires or wheels yes.... PLEASE verify before you buy... Ask for a copy of the policy/contract... My finance lady either lied or didn't know. I thought it was a good deal also. Glen, you are my "goto" guy. If you have it, check the contract and let me know, either way, with an update to this post.

I dont have it, but at the right price, its a valid option. Price a new run flat. Or two.

Agreed as long as you don't figure curb damage. My idea was to buy a set of take off run flats as "insurance" to cover the cost of one or 1 1/2 tires if needed

The dealer offered me the 3 year pkg for under $300 the other day when I bought my car. I didn't take it right then and there, but he did say that I could still get it for that price for a couple of weeks after the car purchase, which I might reconsider doing. BUT, I asked about road rash and he stated that it definitely does NOT cover road rash. So just be forewarned.

I have it. Never knew I did.
Had a screw in my right front and dealer told I had 'Nitro Warranty' ? They covered the first $300 of replacing the tire. Tire lists at $520 CDN!!!! I got a quote for $460 and they matched. Sucks to pay out for a new tire after 2000 miles....but at least it wasn't $500

richm: that sounds way too cheap as my finance guy wanted MORE than $500. Get a copy of it and check it out... If it is very limited it's probably not too good. The key to :insurance" is the "print" We would all be interested in the actual coverage

Kinda undecided what to do about this. Seems like many people are talking about replacing the run flats with something else. Continentals seem to be mentioned a lot. The tire insurance wouldn't help in that case.

I bought the tire/rim insurance and the windshield replacement insurance figuring a GM HUD windshield is not cheap.

The package at dealer cost is only about $300. I leased my car and Chevy wanted $1500 over 3 years. I laughed at them and bought it at cost from the honda dealer I wor for. Also covers aftermarket wheels if I decide to upgrade.

Replacing Goodyear F1 with continentals??!! What a downgrade. I had them on my BMW 528i and once they started to wear they were loud and didn't ride as good. I understand if u live in the northern states u would wanna change to an all season tire... But just telling u my experience with them

Hell no. Getting rid of the run flats and adding lighter and wider wheels was one of the first mods I budgeted for prior to buying the car.
