Windshield replacement

Well...less than a month after taking delivery I had a small chip in the windshield about 3" from the top on the passenger side (thanks to our lovely Corpus Christi streets). The day it happened I was at a local glass shop where they drilled it and applied the glue/sealant. It was only the size of a dime or less so I really didn't worry about it...

After returning from a 3 day patrol, I jumped off the ship with my backpack and looking forward to a nice weekend...until I walked up to the car. The "fix" had expanded while sitting here in the South Texas heat. It ran all the way to the top of the glass and down about 5" from the original chip.

If you haven't checked on the replacement price then hold on ladies and gentlemen. Safelite quoted me a new glass (with HUD) to the tune of $780+ tax. Happy Fathers Day to me!

I wasn't ready for THAT at all. But, with a new model and not many on the road yet I guess that's to be expected. There goes the CAI/exhaust until later on this year.

Just thought I'd share my experience with my fellow Camaro owners!

Oh my, this is exactly why I always dry stored my car when going out on a patrol. I'm sorry to hear this and hope it all works out with your insurance.

I bet its so expensive because of the reflective glass for the 2ss HUD.

One time a Corvette came into the dealer from the factory with a chipped windshield from the transport, took weeks to get a replacement due to the HUD glass.

Yeah, the HUD makes a difference in the price. But, dang...and these streets we have here in Corpus are some of the worst I've encountered. We've been stationed in California, Washington, Louisiana, Kentucky, Florida (x2), and my home state here in Texas (x3) and nothing is as bad as these roads.

Special glass required for the HUD your insurance should cover part of the cost.

That's what happened to mine last Saturday on I-20 near Atlanta. Rock flew up and hit windshield on passenger side. The chip is about the size of a dime so maybe Safelite can repair it. Going this Saturday to Safelite for repair. I really don't want my windshield replaced since I have had my Camaro 2SS only 2 months and just has 3200 miles.

I do everything in my power to avoid I-20 in Atlanta. Once of the worst interstate roads I've been on. 3 times I drove on it and 3 times ended up with a chipped bumper or windshield.

I recently replaced my windshield because of a rock chip. Safelite quoted me around $650 for a glass compatible with HUD.

Hope you get a good deal.

If only you were stationed in FL when it happened. State law requires it to be replaced at no charge to you.

Yes tchowe I believe the closer you get to Atlanta I-20 gets worse. I was leaving Douglasville heading west when it happened. I live in Columbus and some of the roads here are in bad shape too with the exception of I-185 which is real good going thru the city.
