2016 Model Year? MISTAKE ?
I don't know why they even Bothered with a 2016 MODEL..... They should have WAITED and brought it all out in 2017< The 50th Anniversary GEN 6 Camaro... With a New 1LE, ZL1 and Z28. A GM blunder? I think SO< Don't get me wrong I love my CAR but I could have waited another 6 Months. Had I known they were going to go into 2017 In the Middle of 2016 I would have waited? Really Glad I leased and DIDN"T BUY<<<

They probably wanted to have all the cars being produced some time to avoid any regular manufacturing problems with the nicer variants.

You do realize most manufacturers start the next model year production about this time right? My '14 328i was built in July '13. You really don't have a point at all to this rant.

Yeah, it's more like they got a late start on 2016 production, not an early start on 2017.

Personally, I have never understood this reasoning. Without getting too much into it, the point is that there is absolutely no logical reason Chevy would lay all of their Camaro cards out on the table from the get go. Doing so would only put them at the biggest disadvantage against all of their competitors.
Also, it would be pretty dang boring after we saw everything the Camaro has to offer from day one. All the attention would go to all the other car companies that have upcoming new products and variants. Camaro would get no attention after the 2nd or 3rd year. Lastly, doing a short model run like the 2016 gives them a chance to quality check the 6th Gen before the full year models start, 2017's and on. This means the 50th will be a much more refined car than it already is. Chevy can feel a little more confident that there are no major unforeseen issues on the 2017's and the pricier variants. This short model year gave them a chance to figure out some initial recalls, correct the blade spoiler/SS spoiler debacle with the holes, the NPP rattle, the electronic seats getting stuck, etc. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you have to realize that there is a reason Chevy (and GM) are making the millions, and we aren't. Just trust me man, they know what they are doing. They've been doing this much longer than any of us. This is how the 5th Gen rolled out as well. That went pretty good for them. I feel their only mistake was not advertising the 2016 heavily. That sucker has a lot of positives going for it. And the potential customers should be informed of those. Sadly, most of us know that the majority of car salesman out there are horribly ill informed about this car. It seems to me that they were mostly relying on the enthusiasts for 2016 sales, and less on the general population of car buyers. |

It's strictly a money decision, there are only so many resources to allocate to a new model and while not ubiquitous it's common across the industry to get the bread and butter car out first and move effort to the more directed variants after. As to keeping their cards under the table while they wait it's common sense. No reason to give competitors a bullseye to put their crosshairs on any earlier than you have to and since your variants aren't ready yet you may as well use the time to build hype, maintain mind share, possibly steal some of the limelight from them.

I think it's completely logical for them to put the car out there, get tons of public interest (Motor Trend COTY and plenty of other glowing reviews)- and then when the public knows a bit more that there's a new generation of Camaro, they release their new special versions. Same thing happened with Gen 5... ZL1 didn't come out till 2012 and 1LE was '13 I believe.
I would think it's also much easier for Chevrolet (and any manufacturer) to put the standard edition out first because the special models need more research and development. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't forget, while these decisions are made years ahead of time, GM needed to updated the Camaro because of the sales of the Mustang. GM could have waited around for the 2017 MY, but they may have lost out on a lot of sales because of it.
Additionally, as mentioned earlier, putting out all of your models at once doesn't afford you a constant PR wave, you get a nice spike, then people stop talking. With the ZL1 on the way, Z/28 speculation ramping up, and likely 2019 refresh and/or power bump, weve got a few years of buzz to look forward to. Also, imagine if the 2017 came out with any of the QC issues the sixth gen has had "GM cant even get the blade spoiler right on an anniversary car" would have been an embarrassment, better to get the kinks out early, and no you cant roll out with no kinks, this is the real world. |

Yes like others have stated. The reason they didn't realize all the packages at once is because of interest. Unleash them all there is a huge interest all at once then the market goes stale for a while. You stagger them out and interest remains through several months and or a year or two. It's just a better way for them to do it. Do I like it? From a business stand point yes, from me getting to drive the car I want right now? Nope. :( lol
