Squeak behind mylink

I made a comment about this in a recent post, but I figured I'd ask because I couldn't find a thread on this before.

I have a squeaking noise (literally sounds like a hamster running on an old wheel) that will vary in frequency and volume at random times. The sound seems like it's coming from the area behind the air vents/mylink screen.

If the car sits for a while and I start it, it's perfect, as soon as I back up and start moving, it may or may not start squeaking. Sometimes it won't squeak at all, sometimes it will be loud, and others it may be faint. If it does squeak, when I park it and leave it running, it will still squeak, albeit, not as loud as when I am moving, but still nonetheless. It will also squeak if the a/c is on or off. It also gets louder if I hit a bump in the road. I've taken it to the dealership and they said they could replicate a slight noise that they credited to a "normal" shifting of dash panels. I kinda smiled when she told me that bc the other 20 camaros I test drove didn't make a peep, so it is not normal at all.

I plan on fishing around for the source this weekend or next, just wondering if anyone had a similar issue. What I'm betting it is, is just a clip for a wire harness or dash panel clip that is not fastened into place 100%, I just wonder why it still does it ever so slightly when the car is just idling though.

Mines in the dash too, but it's more of a squeak than a rattle. Have you had it looked at?

I don't have the door rattle but the door panels aren't too bad to pop off to look at. I had a similar door rattle in my vette and took the panel off and fixed it, turned out to be a nut that wasn't tightened up and fell off a bolt

Hi myrally1 and KyleL,

We regret to learn both of your Camaros are experiencing a rattle concern and understand how displeasing this may be while driving. If you haven’t already brought your vehicles to the dealership to be diagnosed, we would be happy to help arrange an appointment.

Please feel free to send us a private message with your VIN, mileage, full contact information and preferred dealerships if this is of interest.

So I brought the car in last Wednesday to have this squeak addressed. The tech said he can hear it and said that once they removed the center console, that the squeak got louder. They also said they'd have to pull the dash out which also involves pulling the windshield out.

I guess a little squeak behind the air vents turned out to be quite the nuisance. But my question is, if they cannot find the source and fix it after doing all this, what's my next step?

I'm having the same issue. I'm out in AZ and the weather in May has been great so I've been driving with my Windows down and my roof open. Now that's it getting hotter, I'm driving with my windows up and when I'm at 65 mph or faster I can hear a rattle. But I can't pinpoint where it's coming from.
I did have to have my dash taken apart to replace my scratched instrument cluster. I also found a dash screw on the floor of my car. I can't live with this noise. I'm bringing it in to the dealer on Tuesday to see if they can fix it.
If someone finds a solution let me know. I will do the same.

I pinpointed my "dash rattle" to being where the sun roof controls are

I asked the dealership to please let me know what caused the issue, even its just a loose clip. I sure hope they can find it and everything goes back together fine. The service rep told me that it could cause the dash to make noise as the clips were removed then reinstalled, and sometimes that could make them looser. I got news for them, it's coming right the f--- back if it does lol

Does it happen while you turn? I had something similar when I turned or hit bumps.

It has done it then, it also does it as soon as I start moving, after I stop from moving, hit a bump, don't hit a bump. It could be louder or quieter, it's very random

I wish I could pinpoint mine. Mines not coming from the sunroof controls, I can't figure it out. It only starts to happens at 65 plus MPH and then its more of a crackle then a squeak. Since it only happens at highway speeds I'm thinking it must be outside the car. I must have it fixed

The dealership told me I had a loose fuel line that passes through or near the center console. They tightened it and I haven't heard it since.

For you 6 speed guys I had what I thought was a dash rattle.

It's actually my stick shift when I'm in 3rd gear at around 3000 rpm's. I know my trans is different than the SS but, it might be worth checking. I haven't gotten around to addressing the issue so I can't say exactly what is causing it.
