Taking care of Plasti Dip wheels
Hi all,
I am thinking of Plasti Diping my wheels black. Wanted to know the maintenance overhead. Can I use products like hydro2 to protect the plasti dip coating? Will the coating help with brake dust? Is it easy to clean with a MF cloth? Thanks!

Just plain soap and water seemed to work best..
It is not paint so I doubt Hydro will help Your brakes will dust just as much. Anthracite or black PD will hide it No

I plastidipped my vette winter wheels and they came out great. Two coats of anthricite PD and thrn two coats of glossifier. Modshack was my guide.
![]() Because this is actually a rubber, you don't want to use any wax or silica like Hydro2. You actually can use a liquid PD sells called dipcoat...@ dipyourcar.com I bought that, and found out that it was absolutely no better than what the detailers recommended at Autopia, which was Armour all extreme shine for tires. I still use that on my rear Valence that I dipped on the Camaro. And it looks great. It gives it a nice low level Gloss. Weekly maint is just std rinseless wash.

I used to have Plasti Dipped wheels on my Gen5. Adam's Super VRT is great for coating plasti dipped wheels. Helps keeping them looking new and from wearing out.
This is a before and after picture after using Adam's VRT on the wheels and tires on my brother's Mustang... (yeah i know, I tried but he will never convert)

Great response!
One more thing...I already have hydro2 coating on my wheels. What should I do to prepare for the dip?

There is also a pre-dip spray for prep...

I've dipped wheels on my previous cts v and on my camaro. Only issue I've ran into is that I put tire shine on my wheels almost 2 times a week since I work at a dealership. Around the lip is starting to come off as the shine eats into it.. But just touch it up and good to go

Sponge, soap and water to clean them. Don't use a pressure washer.
I also used glossifier as a top coat to help protect them. It helps make a smoother finish and make them easier to clean. If the edges start to peel, you can use DipFix to repair then recoat them. |

I was wondering if I can paint a thin red outline on these dipped wheels?
Make it look like those $1995 OEM wheels. Which type of color will adhere to the dip?

If you're hard up to paint, that'll be a lot of work masking. But enamel spray paint will stick on top of PD. Or you could paint the red in enamel then mask it off. Paint the PD then remove the masking over the red. You'll have to cut the edge with a razor, or it won't separate cleanly. I did similar on my track car.
