Anyone sold a used car to a dealer?

Since I got the Camaro im off loading my Acura.

Put it on craiglist and a "Vehicle Aquisition Manager" from an auto group contacted me offering to buy the car however he says I wont get a check for 5 days because thats how long it takes to process. He said his office is out of the Cadillac dealership.

I would either leave the car there and come back or have the check mailed to me, or sign a form stating I am borrowing the car until the check arrives.

Seems sketchy, but its a dealer... Anyone heard of or experience this?

Notify them that when funds clear then they can have the car. Check processing time is NOT your problem. If they try to pressure you then run away...

I told him that, thats when he replied I would have to sign that "Borrowed Vehicle Agreement" form

Then I told him I wasnt sure I felt comfortable signing any paperwork without cash or a check in my hand, thats when he sent that last reply.

I actually have had a dealer out of Michigan buy my 07 Silverado. I posted it on CL and in a few days was emailed and then I called the dealer, it was legit and they said they wanted my truck. It all worked out well. Paperwork came with a check, I deposited it and waited for it to clear. In the meantime they sent a transport company to get it. I gave all my paperwork to the transport driver as that is what they wanted me to do. Best transaction I ever did and got what I wanted for it.

I sold my G6 to a dealer that way. But I came away with a check in hand. I would never give my car to anyone without payment first.

Yep, I agree, you have to be careful. Tell them you're gonna keep your car until check is arrived, deposited and cleared (i.e. funds are available).

Do not proceed otherwise.

Seems a little too fishy to me. The only time I've sold a vehicle to a dealer was when I traded one in as part of a negotiation. Leaving a vehicle with someone dealer or not with promise of a check in the mail just makes me far too uncomfortable to proceed. Good luck with whatever you do, it just seems fishy to me.

Scam. All you have is copies of paperwork which mean nothing. Only way I would do it is if I had cash in hand. If they agree to have someone bring cash, don't do it. They'll want to meet in a public place (police station or bank) so you feel comfortable. You go and then they don't show up. Except they are there but you don't know who they are. They will follow you and strong arm steal the car somewhere else. If they do bring the cash, they can do the same. This is one of the biggest scams with cars on Craigslist. Police in KC investigate 5-7 of these a week.
As for cashing their check 1st and waiting for it to clear - Of course, the check they have sent you is fake, but the bank will often cash it and then discover the fraud later. By that time, you're out of pocket, and the scammer's pockets are full of your money. If you still have doubts go with your instinct and don't do it.

Better yet, go to the Dealers website - it's a big dealer in Fremont, CA and chat or call on one the numbers they have listed. Don't use any number you got from Craigslist. Simple and easy

I put my Camaro on Craigslist and a dealer called and offered $27000, then we agreed on $27500. I brought the car to dealer yesterday, they took the odometer reading, wrote it down for title transfer, I signed, got check and left. All in about 20 minutes. So yours doesn't sound right.
