Having come from a 5th gen, I'm shocked on the extreme change of the new mylink & how it behaves... I'm not a fan.

But the reason I'm creating this post is to see how spread out the issues I'm about to describe are; in hopes of finding the actual source of the issues... Phone OS, App versions, or mylink/CarPlay, who/what's to blame? Because of this i didn't even know what to name this thread!

Some of the names I was thinking was "Bluetooth voice alerts" or "WAZE hijacking mylink audio source", to name a few.

Ok, let's get to the issues:(that were never a prob on 5th gen mylink)

** 'Apple maps' does not play voice alerts if XM is the current source, unless it's plugged into to USB/CarPlay! (Bluetooth protocol rendered useless)

** 'Escort live' does not play voice alerts unless current source is Bluetooth(streaming Pandora or iPod), will not work in any other source!

** 'Waze' will work on XM, switches to Bluetooth(iPod mode), but then doesn't go back to XM! (Forcing you to press XM button after every alert!)

** 'Google maps' works perfectly on any source! (Bluetooth carries over as a incoming call, allowing voice alerts, then it goes back to source, like XM)


My setup:
8inch Mylink
iPh+ JB 9.0.2
Max 360 radar detector v1.3 (GPS/BT enabled)
Escort live app (latest version)
Waze app (latest version)
Apple maps app (latest version)
Google maps app (latest version)

Whether you have built in NAV or not, I'd like to hear from anyone experiencing any of these issues. Also post your setup.

I don't know much about it yet as I won't have my car for several weeks... However, my brother just leased a 2016 Malibu and the apple car play infuriates him. For one, the music on his phone becomes completely unalphabetized when he connects it to the car. Secondly, for some reason, he can be streaming pandora through bluetooth and then when he plugs the phone in USB to charge it, pandora suddenly becomes unavailable.

There are a couple of other wacky things it does... Like it wants to automatically read all of his text messages and the voice recognition seems to be spotty.

I don't know if this has to do with the apple car play app, his phone, Mylink, user error, or whatever else. It's probably a combination of all these things.

I have an android so I'm hoping android auto will be less frustrating.

Sort of related... If you don't like the way your phone and car interact when plugged in via USB, and wish that your car would just dumb it down and treat your phone like a regular BT device, you can use this $11 adapter. It blocks the data connection, allowing your phone to charge in your car without any extra complexity. My wife uses this in her 2013 Ford, where a simple BT connection is better than the "integrated" business that comes with a direct USB connection.

That would solve some issues, but in my case still a few more weird stuff that might require app updates, or mylink updates..But thx for this info

Been thinking this all week myself -- exact same problem with Waze notices resetting my audio to my phone Bluetooth instead of the XM (and I've noticed that even on FM radio, too). Apple CarPlay is infuriating because anything chosen also changes the phone screen (so if I'm using Waze and press the CarPlay icon to do anything else, like start Pandora or a podcast) it changes the phone screen AWAY from Waze. Wish you could "lock" whatever displays on your phone while CarPlay is active.

Overall, I'm disappointed with this radio, MyLink and CarPlay. Seems like an inferior product for such a nice car. No HD radio, icons/graphics are kind of ugly, issues with bluetooth connectivity, not getting many Gracenote icons, etc.

Ya I wish I could go back to my 5th gen mylink. This gen6 mylink is a pile of shit. Also the look of the UI is 2 steps back.

If you haven't found it yet.. here's the fix for WAZE:

In the WAZE app: Settings > Sound & Voice > Sound output > select "Play as Bluetooth phone call"

Ya I knew about the Waze thing, but sadly EL app has done nothing about fixing. They need to do same as waze/google maps do.

I use the andriod part of the radio. I have noticed some glitches here and there. Mostly just going from google play music to a phone call then it will not play again. I disconnect my phone and reconnect and usually all is good. Other than that radio is golden. I do not have nav but google maps is all I ever use anyways. So far it all works great.

I have the same sort of issues but last week the whole system shut off for several seconds before rebooting. I'm dropping off the car on Monday for the dealership to look at.

I had to turn off BT completely for Apply CarPlay to work. Very aggravating.
