AFM and aftermarket exhaust

Switching over soon to set of ARH headers and XPipe just got to thinking about AFM on these cars. There is another baffle that closes from my understanding to help with back pressure when it drops to 4cly mode. With the new system that baffle will no longer be in place. Is there potential of running into issues or are people already doing this with zero issues?

You will need to leave the actuators connected or you will throw a code.

So left them just attached under the car I ask because I have yet to get under it on the lift. I assumed they were attached to the exhaust system.

No. You have to keep the AFM valves. You'll have to cut them out and weld them into the new system or only replace the system up to that point. You can't tune the AFM valves out and you can't leave them hanging. They have to be attached or they will throw a code. There is only one system with AFM valves and that's Stainless Works. They give you the option of AFM valves or dummy mounts for cheaper that you can mount the AFM motors to but there's no actual valves inside the exhaust. It saves money but you'll hear the car sounding like a cylinder when it goes into v4 mode when using the dummy mounts over the actual AFM valve option.
So those are your choices, either transfer the valves to the new exhaust, don't replace that section, or go with Stainless Works over ARH. ARH did not bother to build a system compatible with automatic transmission/AFM cars. Neither did kooks

Great info man I really appreciate all this. I plan on getting tuned after the install by doing this I plan on deleting the tuning aspect of AFM since this is the case I wouldn't need it any longer correct and the tuner can disable that code from popping up right?

As far as I've been told by the Corvette guys, you can't tune out the AFM electric motor check bc it's not part of the ecm or something like that. I would try searching on the c7 forums to see if things have changed since then.

Or you could get a range technology plug in to stop the car from going into AFM mode. I bought one but after changing the exhaust, I don't feel I need it.

No, this won't work. The car checks for the electric actuators upon start up. He is talking about taking the motors off the car which you can not do without setting off the CEL.

And you can not tune out the check engine light for it. You will get a check engine light unless the AFM motors are functioning, no tune will change that. Stainless Works offers a dummy mount for the AFM motors that's just like the real thing but no valve is in the exhaust.

Jimmy is correct, range only stops the car from going into V4 mode, it doesn't stop a CEL if you remove the actual valves.

Seems like the actuators could be replaced with a coil, relay, and resistor to prevent codes from showing up. Then can the actuators. Just thinking out loud.(?)

I installed Borlas x-pipe with the afm valves. After a couple tries from Borla, they got it right and the CEL went away.

You will have to tune for the headers so you can tune out AFM mode at the same time. That will prevent the engine from running in V4 mode but that won't prevent the CEL for disconnecting the AFM acutator.

I believe HP Tuners has a way to tune out the AFM valve check but it is in the body control module (BCM) and not the ECM or TCM. It costs more points to tune that module. I believe many people use the method below.

The AFM exhaust valve is two pieces. The actuator motor connects to the wire harness and is bolted to the actual valve in the exhaust. You can unbolt the actuator and leave it connected to the wire harness to eliminate the CEL while removing the AFM exhaust valve. Just carefully tie the actuator up to the bottom of the car someplace where it won't be damaged.

You absolutely can tune out the AFM modules and not throw a code. It's in the FPCM and requires an extra credit with HP Tuners.
