CAI Cold Air Intake...Special

I installed my CAI cold air intake a couple weeks ago and it works just fine. Someone who saw it said it was the best looking cai he had seen and it looked OEM. Knowing the GM is some day going to release their OEM cold air intake and it "just happens" to look exactly like CAI's product, I thought I would try to make the drag strip crowd to think it is the GM Chevrolet Performance intake. So, my local sign shop made up the plastic signs you see in the pictures and, to my eyes, it looks pretty much like it is a factory item or dealer installed option. What do you think?

I had my sign shop guy fashion the tag after the aluminum one on the radiator shroud that says "logo" Performance. I had it made up in white with red letters and the beveled edges are also red. Pretty neat don't you think?

As an aside to this little DIY, I removed the lid from the CAI unit before I drove to the sign shop to pick up the signs and was surprised that my car was running very poorly. It felt like it was running out of gas, but I had plenty. I could only suspect that the lid being off was the problem. I re-installed the lid and the car ran fine. Is it possible that without the lid, the ECU was confused by the Air to Fuel ratio change (if it did change)?

The one under your hood probably the same as one of mine with the Chevrolet logo and the word "Performance" written on it. A very nice touch in stock trim.

Where did you find it? I haven't been able to find a CAI anywhere, but I've also been waiting for Chevy's CAI to come out.

Millertime555,

Our intake system for the 2016 Camaro SS is available on our website and also through many of our great dealers. Thanks!

I hope you don't mind me removing your logo. I was worried about that...probably invalidated my CAI warranty...lol.

Did you have a comment on how the car ran without the lid in place?

I bought mine from RDP. They are in pretty high demand and definitely worth the money and the wait if you can't get one immediately.

EDIT: I made a typo on the company I bought my CAI from. It was RDP and not ADP as I said in my original post. Sorry for the confusion and thanks to CAI for catching my mistake. CAI and RDP are great guys and I highly recommend the product and the vendor. Thanks.

One of my car show friends is also an excellent professional body man and car paint expert who is doing some work for me. When I drove up, he wanted to see the engine, so I opened the hood and showed him. His first comment was, "Oh an OEM cold air intake...nice!" I didn't correct him and I'm going to see if anyone ever thinks differently...should be fun.

That looks fantastic.

I bought the Mishimoto at the prepricing to save some dollars. I guess preventing a possible hassle at the dealer was not worth $100 more for me. The CAI CAI is the best looking and was one of the best 5th gen LS choices for power, espcially with the under scoop. Looking forward to the CAI bake off if and when it happens.

I still have my 5th gen CAI CAI. I wish it fit.

Looks Great ParisTNDude! I cannot wait to get mine and install it. I am thing about doing a custom color as some of the other forum members have for their 5th gen.
