Onstar module location

I know people have been wondering where the OnStar location on this vehicle is. I wish I could tell you but I don't know exactly. However, the 2016 Camaro is in my estimating platform now and I can at least show you a diagram of what it and the mounting bracket looks like if that helps anyone out.

There is a note that says "LABOR: Time is after package tray trim is removed." so my guess is that it's located on the package tray below the trim. The Package Tray is the part below the rear window that the rear speakers are bolted to. It only calls for .2hr of labor for the module and the package tray trim calls for .6hr so it doesn't sound like it's buried very far. So I bet if you remove the package tray trim, you'll see the module under it.

Thanks and good luck

Check for a splitter type connector with 1-3 inputs/outputs and a larger silver box with a possible ac delco logo on it around the area of where the center of the lower part of the dash meets the center of the floor hump.

What I posted above seems to indicate it is bolted to the package tray and not the dashboard though.

Hell I don't know either. It's a joke car makers stick this bullshit in cars to begin with. This is a guess based on the dash layouts and where these items are on other GM cars. I was discussing what it would entail to disable the unwanted nanny system to someone that installs high end audio and he said he would start looking there.

Mine is currently disabled by pulling the fuse.

kinda want my microphone to work again and just need to disable the cell radio.

That mounting bracket looks pretty tall in the illustration though. When I looked from inside the trunk I didn't see anything and these pictures on this forum dont seem to look promising for it being back there up top by the speakers.

Maybe it's bolted to the underside of the package tray and accessed from the trunk but you need to remove the trim to get to some bolts or something? With advancements in technology, I'm guessing this thing can be pretty small. The mounting points in the photo of the module makes it look like it's bolted upside down from underneath.

Gonna bump this one more time since I saw another thread with someone asking where it was. Has anyone checked with the above info? Possibly bolted to the underside of the package tray?

Any word on location of this module and deleting it without losing other functionality or getting an error message?

it's under the passenger dash near the firewall. Drop the panel with 4 screws (have fun with that as i had to do some contortionist moves to get at them.

Onstar is the silver box on the left once the panel is dropped. Open that stupid thing up and remove the radio board. But do that after disabling the wifi or you wont be able to turn it off without physically dealing with that module.

Original location discovery thread http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=467475

There are no error messages visible to the driver if you pull the fuse or remove the transponder. You will need to disconnect the rear mirror's power connector to kill the stupid lights that are embedded in it.

if you just pull the fuse, you'll lose the mic since it's routed through the onstar box.

If you pull the transponder, you retain all functionality except the compass readout (pointless anyway).

It takes two seconds to pull the fuse and a lot more work to do the radio board mod. Likewise, reversing the process is very fast with the fuse. If you don't wan't Onstar tracking you, then you don't want your mobile phone doing it either, so take the battery out. Other than the phone is there some other important use for the mic when Onstar is off?

A month after I bought he car I received a driving habit report listing multiple hard applications of the brakes and heavy acceleration. I went to the Onstar website and turned it off.

Remember, your car has a data recorder. If you lose control going 100 mph it will record it, even though the anti-lock brakes prevent skid marks and you are only going 20 when you hit something or someone.

I would love to know if Onstar can coordinate speed with GPS data and save more than a few seconds worth unless a crash is detected.
