Blind spot monitor

Do you have enough confidence in your blind spot monitoring to not look over your shoulder when changing lanes?

I never look back when driving in traffic. I just lean a bit forward and look at the side mirrors for a second. Same blind spot elimination without completely taking your eyes off what's in front of you.

That's not something new to gen 6 though. Did that for 3rd gen and 4th gen as well.

I personally have always had my mirrors setup to almost completely eliminate my blind spot and then just to make sure I lean forward a little bit to double check. I have never really turned my head except when I was 15 going through driving school (requirement in cali to get license) and when I did my driving test.

My head and eyes are constantly in motion, whether I'm in a vehicle with blind spot monitor or not.

Correctly adjusted mirrors is great, and it works: I've been preaching that for years. But turning your head for a split second before switching lanes will help keep your driving from ruining my day.

Same here. I drive like a fighter pilot in traffic, head on a swivel as they say. For the simple reason that most Americans are terrible about situational awareness when driving. Now if I'm in light traffic, I'm definitely using the mirrors more so.

Completely agree...my head turns constantly along with properly adjusted mirrors. Anyone that soley relies on mirrors is not being conpletely safe and driving the correct way.

I'm good at using the tools provided. Turning my head shows me nothing additional, takes longer than leaning forward and takes your eyes off the road in front of you. It's far more likely that a car in front of you could suddenly slow down while you are looking behind you and catch you off guard than a car magically finding it's way beside you despite you having a clear view of what is not only beside you but in behind you and in front of you.

In NY, if you don't turn your head and directly confirm (with your eyes alone) a clear lane before changing lanes, you fail the road test...

That said, I was not speaking about looking "behind you", in case it sounded that way....just over the shoulder, sideways, which is what I read the OP say...

Just set the mirrors correctly. Besides mirrors I just have to check right next to the car real quick. Honestly I don't even notice if the monitor is lit up or not most of the time. I always drive to get myself in an area with no cars around me. Not always possible obviously, but a high percentage of the time I can find a spot with plenty of cushion in case someone does something stupid.

2016 Camaro Owners Manual

Lane Change Alert (LCA)

If equipped, the LCA system is a
lane-changing aid that assists
drivers with avoiding lane change
crashes that occur with moving
vehicles in the side blind zone (or
spot) areas or with vehicles rapidly
approaching these areas from
behind. The LCA warning display
will light up in the corresponding
outside side mirror and will flash if
the turn signal is on.
{ Warning
LCA does not alert the driver to
vehicles outside of the system
detection zones, pedestrians,
bicyclists, or animals. It may not
provide alerts when changing
lanes under all driving conditions.
Failure to use proper care when
changing lanes may result in
injury, death, or vehicle damage.
Before making a lane change,
always check mirrors, glance over
your shoulder, and use the turn
signals
.

See? Even the Camaro team wants you to turn your head.

Thanks for the digging, Becky!

I turn my head but having used these for a while, i'm fairly confident in them.. I always pay attention to how accurate they are even when I have no plans of changing lanes, so I pay attention to cars coming up behind me and see at what point they indicate that a car is in the area... it's pretty good about it.. so while I tend to look regardless, i'm confident in them
