Gas guzzler tax

Wanted to start a thread to not hijack another. When I was looking at the Challenger, it was $1000. My dealer wrote $126 for gas guzzler tax. Now from what I understand, GGT is federal. Has anyone paid any gas guzzler tax for the 2016 Camaro SS with manual transmission?

I was always lead to believe that you will get hit with a gas guzzler tax if your car only gets 14 mpg or less...............

Again, if it's not on the sticker, it's not a legitimate charge. Same for the tire tax your dealer is hosing you for... Say NO (loudly)

Unless there is a separate state tax such as the NJ tire fee ($1.50 per tire), which is not on the sticker but is a legitimate charge. The GGT is federal.

Sorry if I come across as argumentative, this is how I learn. I want to be sure that I am right when I walk in to finalize the paperwork.

I need something more than it just not being on the sticker. Tax, dmv fees, and doc fees aren't on the sticker but you pay those.

No GGT for the Camaro yet...the future ZL1 may though.

GGT HAS to be on the sticker if there is one, and there is not!

No GGT on the SS. The Challenger M6 cars do get hit with a GGT. Only the A8 equipped ones increase MPG enough to avoid the hit.

You don't need anything else. IT IS NOT ON THE STICKER...the dealer is taking advantage of you. Other fees are completely unrelated to the federal GGT

NO...Chevy already paid that and it would be their responsibility since they sold the car to the dealer.

It's another part of the dealer hose job you are seeing. What else haven't you told us about? Sounds like this dealer is a real opportunist. Educate yourself.

I am attempting to educate myself now. Registration and doc fees are the only others.

As per the tire tax, this is what I found.

The tire tax ($1.50 per tire) is printed on the sales agreement for NJ. Not something that a dealer can write in manually.
