is magnetic ride control worth the price?

i am looking for feedback on whether the mrc is worth the $1700 charge, assuming this vehicle will just be on "normal" condition roads. i guess there's less mechanical pieces to break, but if the mrc system ever breaks is it more expensive to repair than standard suspension? give me some pros, cons, and general thoughts if you have or have had a vehicle with this feature.

I think it has a lot to do with where u live. Here in Mi we have some bumpy roads. To me the Mag Ride is the nicest thing about the car.

Yes the shocks cost more. Right now they are 2.5x or so the cost of standard. So instead of $100, they are $250-275.

How often they break? I couldn't find any info that showed they had a shorter life than the regular shocks. I scoured the CTS-V forums and C6 / Gen 5 ZL1 forums. Lots of reports of > 100,000 miles on them.

What is your purpose for the vehicle?
DD... then yes, I'd not hesitate to get it.

Track beast... nope, skip it, you can build a better setup.

Mixed... Your call. From what I recall from the FNR engineers is that the "normal" SS suspension is somewhere between the MRC "Sport" and "Track" modes. Also, it was stated that the standard SS suspension beat the 1LE time around Milford course. So the "normal" SS suspension is very, very good.

Mine will never see the track, but will be a 3 season DD on the shitty roads up here in New England. It's a "must buy" for me.

A little price check on that for ya...Magride fronts for the new Camaro are $652 each, rears are $457 each, MSRP. Non magride shocks are $158 front each, $164 each rear. A difference of $1574.

If they go out yes, they are more expensive. My V was 6 years old and had zero issues. I would have paid double for MRC. Glad its a steal IMO.

Oopsies. Maybe you should shop around?

$330 at RockAuto right now, FYI. $100 for standard.

I've seen them on sale for < $300. (assuming they're the same part as used in the 2015/16 C7)

Also, probably a good thing that no one is going to have to go out and buy them *right now* seeing for the next 3 years they are under warranty, eh?

good answer here......my roads in fla are nice and smooth, so I don't need it. Also, I don't drive the car hard. Not worth my $

Now if I lived up on Cleveland where the roads are terrible, I'd probably order it.

Seems to be split. Everyone who has it loves it. Everyone without it doesn't regret not opting for it.

For me personally, its about functionality. To me I see the drive modes as a little gimmicky on a NON-MRC car. Again this is just my opinion, but nothing of significance is changed when selecting modes. Correct me if I'm wrong but all it does is alter throttle response and steering assist weight. It may also deal with the ABS and Traction Control but how many of you are pushing the car hard enough to have any run ins with ABS, Traction, or Stability Control on a consistent basis?

So to me the drive modes are all about altering the FEEL of performance on a NON-MRC car, but on the MRC car it certainly does alter the dynamics of the suspension damping not to mention its own capability of monitoring the road and adapting.

So I would have the MRC given the choice, but I'm holding out for a 1LE and I may not have that option available to me. If so, I will still buy it and not complain about the lack of MRC.

I love to know I have it. Too much of a technological advance in the suspension to ignore it and don't get it (for me personally). Besides, I wouldn't have got it aftermarket either. It went in the finance so I don't think about it. Not the case for me if I was to get it aftermarket.

This shows what all supposedly changes with the modes.
