2017 Order date

I know that no one knows the exact date, but I have no idea what is probable having never ordered a car before.

When most likely will one be able to order a 17? Best educated guesses welcome.

Thanks,

Jim

The next model year production usually begins in August. Since I seriously doubt there will be any changes for the Camaro for 2017, and if there are they will be very minimal, GM won't need to change tooling or make many adjustments. VIN number order and window sticker information are about the only changes you'll see. So I bet production will halt for maybe a few hours.

Order your Camaro whenever you want. The 2017s will be the same.

There will probably be some minor changes, but my main concern is I don't like to buy a "first-year" car. I may not be able to wait that long though. We will see....

Thanks,

Jim

May-July is when the cutoffs between MY happen for GM anyways.

Very slim chance anything magical happens between a late 16 and a early 17 if you're worried about issues.

I'm not sure how buying a 2nd model year car is that much better than a 1st.

Pretty much anything that can be found & fixed in time for the 2017s to start rolling down the line is going to be covered under warranty. On the flip side, anything that will show up after the warranty expires obviously isn't going to be found for quite a while and so GM can't have a fix ready 6 months from now.

Plus, automakers don't simply wait for model year changeover to make tweaks to the cars. The Camaros built this week aren't exactly the same as the ones built in October, and won't be exactly the same as the ones built in May.

I would think the 2017 model would have a lot to look forward to. None of it is official but you can pretty much guarantee a 50th anniversary model. 1LE or ZL1 might show up. Probably no major changes to the SS or V6/T4 models, color changes and maybe a few technology upgrades.

No powertrain or sheetmetal changes, but likely new wheels for the 50th anniversary, and maybe some new badging, likely a new feature or two.

A little anecdotal, and probably not relevant to you, but I bought a first year 2010 5th gen, and after 85,000 miles, my check engine light has never came on, my car has never broken down, and I've never had to spend more money than regularly scheduled maintenance. So don't always think "first year" is bad. There are 99 happy customers for every 1 dissatisfied people.

Sure there probably wont be any major changes. But you can bet any issues the 1st yr have will be ironed out in the 2nd yr. There are issues popping up, nothing major, but they are there. I am starting to think of just waiting till May to order one for Sept.
