LED Underglow Lights

So, lets start off by me saying I really can't decide, but for some reason, it has gotten into my mind that I might want to put an LED Underglow Light kit on my new Camaro. The main reason is the shows/clubs I will be going to are mostly at night time and I figured it might make it pop (main reason I got the Glowtie as well). I guess my big conundrum is that I can't decide if it will make the car look too cheap on a muscle car or make it look like a ricer.

Has anyone added underglow to their new camaro or any they have owned in the past, and what is your opinion on the matter. I have the Summit White 2SS and would most likely use a white glow, so nothing crazy or tacky.

Also, while on the topic of Light Kits, has anyone used an RGB strip on the front grill before and how does it typically look in person. I have also seen some corvettes with glow on the bottom of the doors that only lights up when they open the door, which seems more practical and adds some flair.

Any pics on either of these would be appreciated (and brutally honest opinions)!

I say do what makes you happy. Personally (and this is just my opinion), I can't stand underglow lighting. It adds no performance value and reminds me way to much of The Fast & The Furious (which I do like as a film series BTW ) If you bought the car to take it to shows, then it may add some value for you.

It's all good, kind of the reaction I am looking for, just straight up honest.

Don't do it. Leave the underglow for the teenagers.

Does underglow ever animate? Just driving around with LEDs shining on the ground does seem lame. But if you had, say, a bunch of orange underneath that were off until you accelerated, and then ramped up in intensity along with engine RPM (looking like engine fire), and then dimmed when not accelerating... Didn't they used to have spark effects for that?

To me, LED lighting looks lame because, as Eric SS points out, there's no performance value. It's not a side effect of anything, and it doesn't help the pilot out at all.

Well I didn't attack him. Just gave my unfiltered opinion. I think our car is way too good for that type of ricey stuff :P

You know what's tacky? Bumper stickers. And yet I'll see corvettes with 'em, even. Why would you spend that much money on something and then slap a sticker on it.

You want people looking at the car not the cheap LED lighting on the pavement.
Put your effort into making people stand, stare and ask questions about your car.
Engine bay and interior mods for example.

I have been here and back through the import and domestic car enthusiast scenes. I admit that underglow LED or Neon has a stigma attached to it because "real car guyz" won't put anything on their cars that doesn't increase performance.

But god damnit, I have always liked the way they look! With that, I bring to you this:

LOL!

Underglow is definitely lame and generally found equipped on cars (usually an Asian 4 banger) with sh***y, obnoxious aftermarket exhausts. However, I think the glowtie is tasteful and I'll definitely be adding one when the black version is released. I also plan to add the performance intake when it finally drops just because I'm a heathen who thinks performance and aesthetic only mods can coexist in harmony on a car.

Underglow bashing aside though, I was actually searching the other day to see if some LEDs that had the effect like you described existed. I thought an orange LED exhaust kit that outlined the tips and increased in glow brightness with acceleration would be pretty cool - making it look like jet afterburners. Unfortunately there's nothing close to that in existence that I could find. I'm guessing the heat from the exhaust makes something like this a challenge?
