I have pretty much no interest in doing them unless I take it to the track for drag, but what's the safest way in an automatic to even do that if it is even possible?

Turn traction and stability control off, hold brakes , press gas.

Its not risky lol, waste of tires is why i never do it. I never have had line lock but i know its makes it easier to do a burnout because no powerbraking is required.

It locks the fluid in front brake lines while allowing you to release brakes and do a burnout without moving. I doubt you'll ever see it from the factory
