18" or 20" Snow Tires?

Do 18" snow tires perform BETTER than 20" snow tires for the Camaro?

I'm up here in Cleveland, Ohio with a 2LT V6 RS on order.

Not sure which size snow tire to buy?

What do you think?

You get the '20s on the 2LT don't you? You'll have to order a completely new set of 18's if you do that. As for '20s vs '18s, it doesn't really matter.

DISCLAIMER: Someone who as experience with this more than me, please do feel free to correct me.

Tire itself as well as the width of the tire matters, not the diameter. 275 rear 20's will work much much better than 18's as it is much wider and I think the 18's come with 245 rear not 275. Wider = more foot on the ground thus better traction. Same mentality goes for summer tires for performance. Especially on RWD.

I have driven through Fargo with a c6 zo6 on snowtires and the car was lower than the freaking snow piles. The only crappy part of driving our babies is the road salt/rocks that could potentially chip your paint unless you go pay the $$$ for clear bra. Painting the front bumper/fenders/hood is always cheaper than a clear bra though lol.

no, wider is worse for snow tires. That just gives you more surface area to slide on. You want thinner tires to cut through the snow to the pavement. It's a trade-off, as you get less grip obviously on the pavement with thinner tires. But it's better for snow.

I'm getting 19" snow tires and rims because they're $600 cheaper than 20".

Skinnier tires with more sidewall will be better for snow.. Shallow or deep. The weight is on a smaller patch surface and it'll cut through better. I'd go with smaller and skinnier wheels.

How does the Camaro drive in the snow with 19" snow tires and the rear wheel drive aspect? Do you put sandbags in the trunk for more weight?

On my 2014 LT have 18's with snow tires and itdrove fine last winter. Driving smart is more important than anything, smooth throttle and leaving yourself extra room is half the battle in my opinion. With good dedicated snow tires you will be fine this winter.

I had a 17" winter set up last year with my 2014 2LT, zero issues.

Sad now thought because those 17's wont fit a 1016 2SS, because of the brakes.
Last year was the first year I had them and only put maybe 5,000 miles on them.
But I know I wont be able to sell them anywhere near enough to not have to pay much for a new 18' or 19' set up for the 2016.

I have 225/60/18 on my car for winters, and I notice better performance on those set than my 245 I have. Like they mentioned above. Skinnier tires will cut through better than wider one. just youtube snow rally racing.

Just for emphasis... tall and skinny for snows. +1.

For those buying winter tires for the SS, what tire dimensions are you getting? I'm trying to match the OD for the stock tires using smaller wheels but a tire with more sidewall but can't find the specs.

Remember, its all about the tire cutting through snow with as much sidewall as possible. I say go with 225/55/19, and keep the traction control on snow. This size will not need to be calibrated for speed corrections. use this link to search for other tire sizes. https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Will that fit the brakes? 225MM sounds too skinny
