Newbie here - My first camaro 69 Z/28

Greetings all. We are a "60 something" couple in Palestine, Texas. Proud of our "new to us" 2013 1LT Silver convertible. Look forward to soaking up all the great tech and advice here.

We are both disabled, but can walk short distances. We make it where we need to go OK. Not fast, but believe in the adage "Why just show up when you can 'arrive'? The Gen 5 ragtop will robustly add to our arrival karma.

So if you all need uprisings quelled, giants killed, or opinions on virtually any subject, we are happy to share our East Texas visions promptly.

Gen 5 is my third Camaro, second was 1982 Z/28 with T-tops. The first was a 1969 Z/28 which I bought "as is" off a used car lot in Aurora, Illinois in 1971 for $1350. 35000 miles, 4.10 gear, 4 speed, M/T super long tube equal length headers on it when I got it.

Thing would not hardly run, thus the bargain price. Actually, it would not idle at all. It would start fine, then immediately die. Long as you were revving it up and down, it was OK. No oil smoke so I wanted to test drive it. Took a lot of talking with the sales guy as they described it as "unsafe" and made me sign a waiver before I took it out. Killed it about 5 times before I spun it up and dropped the clutch to get it moving. Made it to the street, revved it and hammered down. Absolute scalded cat as long as you were deep in the throttle. Drove it home and found that the previous owner had put a weird spacer under the carb. When I took the carb off, I heard a small "whoosh" sound. Pushed it back down and lifted it off again, there it was, the whoosh.

The spacer that was on there was interfering with the accelerator pump lever on the Holley. Paid $15 for a proper spacer, thing started right up and purred like a kitten.

Painted the ralley wheels black and put cop hubcaps on it. Removed all of the emblems except the Z/28 on back. Looked like a 6 cyl car. Terrorized Northern Illinois with that car until I pissed my girlfriend off.

Said she needed the car cause her's was dead. Few hours later I get the call. She's fine. Wasn't in the car. The "fellow" she let take it for a spin was hammer down doing 80+ in a neighborhood, alone, goes airborne over a railroad crossing with a serious hump to it, put my Z through a telephone pole 10 feet off of the ground. He was not seriously injured from the accident. I was hmmm... "aware" that his health took a prompt turn for the worse couple days after that. What a car.

Have to say that the Gen 5 ragtop handles much better than the old Z.

We are interested in friending other disabled folks with Gen 5's and everyone who can relate to the saying "The older I get, the wilder I was".

CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
