Unhappy God, why are you doing this to me?

Well I thought that my dog getting leukemia would be the worst that could happen this year.. and if you could tell by the thread title that isn't the case anymore.

Short story is that I get a call from my Mom saying that my grandfather had collapsed at his favorite 'watering hole' due to an irregular heart beat. Passed out stone cold and was rushed to the hospital. This is the first I've heard of anything heart related happening to him. He's an old fart, survived the Pacific theater in WWII to raise 5 kids and then a boatload of grand kids.

Now I'm stuck in Kalamazoo while my 'rents rush to Cleveland tomorrow to see what the heck is going on. What the hell guys..

What did I do?

At this point I have no clue. I got the call a bit ago and my mom said he just collapsed and was in the hospital. She's a nurse and said it sounded like a symptom of an irregular heartbeat or something but again.. I'm in the dark on this one.

Heck I'm not sure they're telling me everything too. It was just so short, the call I mean.

You cannot blame yourself for anything that you have no control over. Live the Serenity Prayer. It will be your bible. Good luck and God Bless..

Same thing happened to me in 95 with grandma...was 1800 miles away and absolutely no way to get there, save driving. Christmas time, cheapest flight was $900 ish and first class...with 2 layovers and 8 hours time. I drove it in 25 hours straight..Later found out the plane got stuck in Denver and grounded due to storms...flight got in 32 hours after it departed.

Sometimes you can't control the world and it's contents...take that back, we can't control anything.

I'm not real religious, just makes sense to me

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Well I am religious and to that a say a great AMEN my brother!

Remember, the only thing in life that is guaranteed is that one day it will end. God Bless him for living all those years, do not fret, just try and be by his side and tell him all you wanted to all these years. If you do not get that rare opportunity to tell him anything, don't worry he already knows!

I too am religious and also agree with a big AMEN. Another point here, if you have not already done so talk to him about his service to our country. Sit with him look at the pictures, at his service medals (he does have them), listen to this example of living history. My grandfather is also a WWII vet and has amazing tales of being shot down. Your grandpa is an American Hero and you should be very proud.

God bless him, and please thank him for his service to his country from one who has followed the same path and knows the sacrafice it took to go serve.

GOD STOP FAKING ME OUT!!

Ok, here's the REAL story.

My Grandpa was on pain meds for a bum knee. He goes to a party, after taking the meds and decided to ingest a little alcohol.

Never a good idea when you're 83.

He's out of the hospital now and got a dressing down by my mom/his daughter in law. I'm just SO relieved that he's alright. Thank God.
