Catch Can Issues
Ok so I finally got around to get my catch can installed. So when it comes to cutting any type of pipes and/or wires in my car I get nervous. When it was installed I turned on the car to see if it ran ok. I took a test drive around and it was ok. However late last night I had to drive up north to pick someone up. Need be it I had a bit of a lead foot. So last night when I went to check on it again I hear a hissing sound. It is coming from the dirty side of the catch can. What could be the reason for this ? My only guess is that I was going in high revs that the hose got loose cause of the pressure. If anyone can help me out in this matter I would greatly appreciate it.

What make of catch can do you have? This would help us tell if it is just a built in valve or what.

I remember reading about the hissing sound in another thread about the Elite. I don't hear it on mine when I installed it. Make sure you have the tubing pushed all the way into the inlet and exit connections on the can.

You typically should not hear any type of hissing unless it's leaking.

My hissing is of air. I check if it was maybe loose. But again I got to double check if the hose is a bit loose or if the hose clamp aren't in the right place. Those are the only 2 possibilities.

My Elite hissed too. Try rotating the tubing 45 degress on the end of each fitting. Sounds silly but the tubing is not perfectly round so for some reason the pitch of the hiss will change to where it's almost gone. It worked for me.

i have a slight hiss on mine too, no leaks though.....Sounds like the hose going to the back of the motor is leaking, but its not. I am also throwing a P2179 code. Would that have any relation to the catch can?

That sounds like more of a CAI issue than it does with the Catch Can Issue. Make sure that the intake tubing is in correctly. I had a CEL light in regards to my CAI but I didn't disconnect the battery.

Mine hisses too. I remember reading somewhere on here that it's because the hose they give is a different grade than the stock one.

So is the solution is to get a new set of hoses ? If so then what type of hoses should I get ??? Will stainless steel braided lines work for this job ??

Mine hisses a tad as well. All clamps are tight with no leaks.

I'm not too sure, but I guess that might be it. I don't really know the different hose types or grades so I don't know which would be best.

I would say go on Elite Engineering website and see the fitment sizes for the fittings or just send them a message on this form. My can does not make any noises last time I checked. Its been 9 months since I drove it due to deployment but when I start it up I will check. My tubes had Goodyear branded on them, so I would think that the quality is fine. Never had any codes, I used my app on my Android phone with the Bluetooth OBD II adapter I got from eBay and everything looked good, no leaks or problems.
