has anyone else noticed

I recently read a list of the fastest production cars. And realized 3 of the 4 fastest cars in the world are american made. List I read had #1 Hennessey Venom gt with gm based v8 #2 Bugatti with w16 #3 SSC Areo TT with gm based v8 #4 Saleen S7 with ford based v8 . Goes to show america can compete in the supercar class. And when people say "why do Americans keep building large v8's that don't preform?" Because the do preform lol where are there little 3.8L v8's cause they are not at the top of the list. On top of that #7 is a zevo not american made but runs a modified gm 7.0L that makes 3 gm based motors and 1 ford based motor on a list of fastest production cans in the world. Who would have known

As the run was in a single direction and only 11 cars have been produced to date, and is not a series production car, but registered as a modified Lotus Exige, the Venom GT does not qualify as the world's fastest production car

GM's LS series is by far the most used or swapped engine as it normally isn't the most expensive engine on the market, easily expandable (mod-able), tune-able, reliable, maintainable, etc...

Most people when they insult American cars, don't talk about our engines lol.

Still impressive that its powered by a modified "gm v8 dinasour motor" it also did it on a 3 mile straight were as Bugatti did it on an 8 mile oval. They also reported the venom was still accelerating at a rate of 1mph per second.

Thinking about it, should it count as both directions if the Bugatti did it on an oval. Yes it traveled in both directions but technically they only ran the track in one. There was no down and back and the didn't run the oval in reverse direction.

I think the best thing about the GM engines mentioned in this thread is the fact they use push rods

Any build I would want to start, I would grab a GM LS or the newer LT engines in the C7. There may be better engines, certainly more powerful engines but I think dollar for dollar these are your best bet as they take everything so well and are, for the most part, robust engines.

SSC areo TT held the record for fastest production car from 2007-2010 using a modified C5R with TT and that one was a recognized and certified run

I am impressed with max speed of cars as they come stock, from the factory. Special editions and factory or after-market modified ones don't count in my book.

In order to be considered a production car I believe they have to build at least 30 and they have to be emissions legal

I agree with you. When people talk about foreign cars have more hp then American cars does. They are talking about coming off a regular assembly line. No after market cams, headers, air intakes and others to boost the HP.

But where do u draw the line? Is a mustang gt 500 factory, or a roush, or a Saleen, or an svt cobra? You can buy them at the ford dealership and ford fans will argue that they are. They will even do comparisons and try to tell u how much better they are then an ss camaro or a zl1.
