Woman fined $1.9 Million dollars for illegally downloading 24 songs.

it's ridiculous. is there anything like the pirate party (political party) over here in the US?

the swedish pirate party is pretty well known, and even the german pirate party got 0.9% votes at the european parliament election. it's a start!

This is her second trial. Pretty crappy. I can't believe the jury awarded those damages. I understand the ruling (that she was guilty if infringement) but she should've been given the "minimum" damages which is still an absurd $18,000. Instead they went with some middle of the road (between the min and max) of $80,000 per song.

Arstechnica has been covering this pretty heavily.

But if you haven't already been sued by the RIAA, they've stated that they won't be launching any suits going forward so you're safe

I've 'borrowed' only a handful of songs to date...won't be doing it anymore, though.
