How to unplug the stock gas pedal to install the ZL1 pedal?

I was able to reach up in and unbolt the 3 bolts to remove the whole gas pedal unit, but I can't figure out what to pull, pop, or pry to get the plug to "leave" the stock pedal!!! I see a black piece that might need to be pryed up over the little sharp piece sticking up......I don't know and I'm hot & sweaty and mad as F%%K right now!!!!

im not by my car right now but i took my pedal out to install a wider pedal for track. i dont remember any problems at all unpluging the connector. i had it in and out twice during the fitup. your probably being to gental with it. now dont break it and blame me but it should just unplug i think.
how different is the new pedal you have. do you have pics of it?

OK I'll give it a better tug. But isn't there a plastic flap that keeps the plug from pulling out from the pedal unit? Not that there's anything that would make it do that. I'm installing the ZL1 pedals that I bought from GM Parts House. No pictures of mine, but others have posted pics of their pedals.

I got it! Your advice did help JOHNSONROD. I was gentle, but I used a small screw driver to pry (although it almost popped) it out. The plug slid into the ZL1 unit and it was in all the way when I heard a slight "click" noise.

How tight should the bolts be? I've really torqed them tight and I don't want to strip one of them.

Not too tight at all... I went about a quarter turn past hand tight with a quarter inch drive.

They were not very tight at all when I undid them to do the install. They are there just to keep the peddle in position they aren't under any load at all.

Ya I noticed that too. Its such an tight, awkward spot and I thought I'd have a fight on my hands to turn the bolts loose. I was surprised how loose they were. I guess I never really paid attention, but the accelerator pedal looks lower/closer to the floor than it did before.

Did you the ZL1 gas pedal is just an "SS" gas pedal with the aluminum cover crimped over it ? No wonder it was a plug and play mod. I will try and tackle the brake and clutch pedals tomorrow. I like the look of the new pedals

Use a little soap on the covers... I started from the bottom and worked around to the top... a bit of a pain but they do fit.

The smaller pedals are on my to do list today. I think putting a mirror on the floor so I can see what I'm doing will help things go smooth. Thank you tramtwo & camaro2lt for the suggestions on how to make the job easier.

When you removed the stock accelerator and gas pedal, did it come off scary easy?

When I swapped mine out for the ZL1 pedals I was actually quite surprised how easy the bolts were to loosen up as well . Nice mod though for sure

Hi guys, I put in the ZL1 pedals on my L99 earlier today. The gas pedal was pretty easy, but the brake cover was a total different story. I finaly got it in but it took me about 30 minutes. I drove the car around and I could tell a big difference in better throttle responce and how the car picks up speed faster now without having to step on it as much. I love it!

Better throttle response by swapping the pedals? Seriously?
