2013 GT500 VIR Track Times

This has probably been posted by now, but it looks like the first real indicator of the performance to be expected from a 2013 GT500. I took part of this info from another C5 post, but they debated if it were a 2012 or 2013 GT500. If you find the specs related to the run, it's clearly a 2013 configured car. It lists the TVS Supercharger and a 5.8 liter engine. See the specs here:

http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/ford_mustang_shelby_gt500_659.html

If that's the best it can do, I feel certain the ZL1 will whoop it's butt.

For comparison you need to look at the other runs listed at:

http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/vi...l_raceway.html

But that's a pretty solid position...

Yep, a little faster than the Grand Sport. If this is the 2013 GT500 in factory trim, it will be very close with the ZL1 on a track.

EDIT: Just noticed the Boss 302 LS lapped VIR in 3:02.80 and we know the ZL1 should be a little faster than that. But is it 4 seconds faster

EDIT2: I scrolled down to find the SS and it appears the 392 Challenger is now posted as well.

Mustang 5.0: 3:08.60
Challenger 392: 3:09.40
Camaro SS: 3:09.50

Less than 1 second separates them - I'd say they're pretty well aligned

Nope, it was a 2011 GT500 with the Performance package.
Here's the run.

I'm worried, i think that's going to be quicker than the Zl1 but not by much.

I think it's hard to base anything on just one track. I'll make my judgment after several different tracks are run.

Black GT - Thanks for clearing that up! Nice post!

And seriously folks...all of this handwringing and speculation has to stop. Let the ZL1 come out and let's have Ford deliver some GT500's that are true factory cars delivered to dealers and then see where the numbers fall. This does nothing for either brand or of anyone's blood pressure.

yep, I looked further because the 2:58 sounded familiar to me and voila! It was for the 2011 GT500 SVT-PP equipped car which ran 8 sec faster than the 2010 GT500 at VIR. The 2013 will smash the 2:58 mark.

Sheesh, so the base trim is the non-performance version, then you add a "performance package" to make it track ready!? What does this consist of, slicks, oil/transmission/diff coolers?

That's not for the 2013. If you notice from the comments, that was posted 3 months ago. Ford didn't even announce any "official" stats until last month. And no one has released any track test numbers for it yet. They don't even have any press cars produced yet, that's why no one has published any test stats. Those numbers are for the 2011 with the SVT Performance Package.

3.73 gears, different wheels and tires, different springs and shocks, spoiler and vinyl stripes. Far from slicks.

No and no. The SVTPP consists of lighter wheels, 20" wheels in back, larger rear sway bar, 3.73 ring gear, ever so slightly lowered suspension, and Supercar G:2 tires with 265/285 F/R versus 255/285 on the "base." Both cars have forged aluminum wheels. The "base" '11 - '12 GT500 is probably not more than 1 or 2 seconds behind the SVTPP equipped one on a road course and dead even on a drag strip since the 20" wheels effectively negate the 3.73 gearing. They had to equip it with the 3.73, otherwise it would've been slightly slower in a straight line than the "base" one with 3.55 gearing.

No one ever did a head-to-head comparison of the SVTPP and non-SVTPP. And there's probably a reason for that...

edit:
Forgot about the Gurney flap and shocks, and all I listed was the "performance enhancing" bits.
