Our sense of smell is a primal one. Humans have known and used odors to understand the world around them from time immemorial.

We wanna' know 'bout ones you DO remember, for good, for bad, for warning, for introduction, for pranks, or just for innocent fun.

Here, I'll begin: While bouncing the baby gently in your lap, a certain scent tells you that it's time to let Mama have fun with the little tike.

Well, last week I got up a little early for class so I was still lying in bed slightly awake. Well, I was kinda cold so I wrapped the blanket around even tighter. Then, due to the Pizza I'd eaten at 1 in the morning, I let a nasty one rip. I mean a NASTY one. Of course, being half awake I didn't realize I was about to dutch oven myself. Lifted the covers to get out of bed, and was hit with this horrible stench. Smelled like rotten eggs mixed with vanilla ice cream with a dash of pepperoni. Nasty stuff.

i dutched ovened myself the other night on purpose just to see what it was like... now i feel bad for all who ive done it too

My little brothers feet.... Any time he pulls his boots off it smells of old popcorn, sourcream and dog ass. I feel sorry for his girlfriend.

Two of them...

One is, after eating a LOT of Sugar Pops (the cereal), you eventually have to take a piss. Unlike normal piss, it actually smells pretty wonderful.

The other...involves two smells. It's a smell you get at many concerts, and even though I really don't do it anymore...it brings back great memories. Of course, then there's the spillage of bong water that brings nastiness to mind.

When I got hit by a car about a year and half ago I broke my arm and ripped open my face. The blood from my face soaked the shirt I was wearing and the road baked in a lot of tar. When I was leaving the hospital they gave me back that shirt to wear after the blood and tar had caked in. Not the worst smell in the world but the tar combined with dried blood sure didn't sit well, I'll never forget it..

limited slip rear end additive has GOT to be the WORST smell ever!! I used to work in auto parts store and one time when unpacking a case of it got it all over my clothes because some of the bottles were leaking in the box. OMG it took forever to wash my hands/clothes to get rid of that smell.

This isn't the worst thing I have ever smelled, but it is a smell that will forever be engrained into my mind: formaldehyde. Now I've been working with formaldehyde for almost 5 years now and let's just say I've gotten used to the burning sensation that you feel in your nostrils that lasts for hours even after you've cleaned up everything. But my first experience with formaldehyde was my junior year of high school when we dissected dead cats. Our cat had been killed and preserved in the 80's (so about 25 years it had just been sitting in this vacuum sealed air tight bag). When we opened that bag it was as if the Grim Reaper himself had come out of it, just pure rancid adulterated death.

The worst thing I have ever smelled I got to experience at a house fire during my first year as a volunteer fire fighter: singed human flesh. There isn't anything on this earth that is worse than that smell. If you've ever singed your hair (on purpose or by accident) or gotten a whiff of singed hair; take that and multiply it by about 10,000. Then couple it with the mental image you've created in your mind about how I cam about seeing singed flesh and that's what I smelled. And on top of that, damn smell for being the sense strongest associated with memory.

My dad bought an '84 Camaro Berlinetta -all black...and back then Ziebart was the big add on here in Iowa...they undercoated and sealed the hell out of that car. That car smelled like that undercoating all it's life, which oddly smelled of Crayons. Seriously: open a pack of crayons and that is what that car smelled like. Every time we go out to eat and the kids pop open a pack of crayons, I think of that '84 Camaro.

The other scent is Wendys. Every time I pass a Wendy's I recall my first girlfriend who worked at Wendys and always smelled of the place when we would "meet up" after work.
