25 people will give you 25 different opinions. Use whatever you are comfortable with. I use Mobil 1 (5W 30) fully synthetic in my V6.
If you use the seach funtion on this forum and do a search on which type of oil to use, you will find at least 100 threads on this subject.

Mobil 1 - may not be the best, but its very good and its Dexos certified (to maintain your warranty). Its also available in 5-qt jugs at Walmart for around $4.25/qt. Costco has discount coupons for it occasionally as well.

You can get 'pure' synthetics that are probably better, but you'll pay $12/qt or more.

Dexos1 requirement only for the 2011 and newer cars. 2010 excluded so that makes it a non warranty issue by not running Dexos1. But, most if not all oil will eventually be Dexos1 approved at some point in the near future.

As for real synthetic oil, you can get Amsoil for far less than $12 a quart if you have a buddy that is a independant dealer. I would pay around $7-ish per quart for the 5w-30 signature series Amsoil.

If 2011 requires Dexos1, I would use it on both 2010 and 2011. Same engines both years.

As far as best oils, Amsoil is my preferred. The "OEM" and "XL" are their Dexos 1 certified oil lines. OEM is the standard Dexos 1 and XL is the eXtended Life Dexos 1. Of Oils off store shelves, I would stay with Mobil 1, too bad you can't use the "Extended Performance" since it's designed to withstand breakdown longer than standard Mobil 1. But it's not Dexos 1 certified.

I would not use royal purple in my car even if it was free. I had a 2001 Chevy impala and I ran Royal purple in it. At 84000 mile it quit, it spun a bearing and i had to get a new bottom end in the car. I have run Mobil one in my Hyundai with no problem got 46000 before tradeing it in for the Camaro. I have run Mobil one in it from day one.

It isn't just Amsoil's OE and XL line that claims dexos certification, but now their Signature Series oils (ASL, ASM, ATM, and AZO) say they are certified as well, however, none of them are certified and do not appear on GM's list, Amsoil is just stating that their oils meet the spec...big difference.

Actually, Mobil 1 EP is now dexos certified...I just picked up some today, and the official dexos logo is on the front. If the oil doesn't have that official logo, then it is not dexos certified, unless it is an oil that has the certification, but the new bottles haven't been produced yet such as the case with some of the Shell products.

Saying your oil meets the spec IS NOT the same as being dexos certified. Period. GM has a list with the oils that are dexos certified, and Amsoil is not on it.

Is Mobil 1 a true 100% synthetic oil?

Nope. Not anymore. It's a group III with a little group IV mixed in. The only true full synthetics are Amsoil, Red Line, and Royal Purple. However, Mobil 1 EP is pretty close.

The owners manual doesn't say a thing about being certified. It says to look for and only use oil that meets the requirements. Amsoil meets those requirements.

Wrong. This is copy and pasted straight from the owners manual on pg 10-9:

"Specification
Use and ask for engine oils with
the dexos™ certification mark
.
Oils meeting the requirements
of the vehicle should have the
dexos certification mark on the
containe
r. This certification mark
indicates that the oil has been
approved to the dexos specification."

Amsoil may meet the requirements, but it is NOT dexos certified, nor does it have the dexos certification logo on the bottle. Stop pedaling untruths.
